Two deaths reported at same location within one month

On Feb. 26, Clinton Police responded to a call at China Inn on Charles Seivers Boulevard in response to a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The scene was chaotic when law enforcement arrived. People were running outside, and employees who remained inside informed them that a man had shot himself in the restroom.

Officers found a 22-year-old Maryville man laying unresponsive on the floor, with a gunshot wound to the chest. The gun was laying beside him, and it is believed the shooting was an accident.

The victim was a Navy veteran.

Clinton Fire and Anderson County EMS arrived but pronounced the victim dead on scene.

No foul play is suspected, according to Det. Danielle Alexander with Clinton PD. It’s the second death that occured at China Inn in February.

On Feb. 11, Clinton PD originally responded to a call about a missing adult. A woman said that her father was missing and had not shown up for work that day.

She pinged his cell phone, according to police, and it had pinged near 1115 Charles Seivers Blvd.

Officers drove to the scene and located her father’s car in the parking lot in front of China Inn, where they found him lying in the backseat.

When the Clinton Fire Department arrived, they were unable to find a pulse.

No foul play is suspected in that death, either.
