Lady Wildcats go 1 and 1 for the week

It was a week of mixed results for the Oak Ridge softball team last week.

The Lady Wildcats played just twice and had three games washed out due to inclement weather.

And the two games they did play couldn’t have been more drastically different.

On Thursday, the Lady Wildcats (3-4 overall, 1-3 in District 3-4A) came up on the short end of a 16-1 league decision against Knox Central in a game that saw the Lady Wildcats score all of their runs in the third inning. This came after the Lady Wildcats had a 1-0 lead heading into the frame.

“I hate that we lost like that against them,” Oak Ridge Coach Jeremy Gill said. “It’s hard enough to win against them anyway.

“We had a 1-0 lead going to the third and then we fell apart,” he said. “We committed error after error and there was just nothing that I could do about it. It’s like I told the girls, we got our butts kicked and we got embarrassed in the process.”

Offensively for the Lady Wildcats, Brenna Bradshaw went 1-for-1 with a run scored, while Kaylee Hickman was 1-for-1 with an RBI.

ORHS opened the week with a 9-4 victory over Coalfield in a non-district tilt on Monday, March 25.

“We played really well in that game,” Gill said. “We pitched well. We played good defense and we hit the ball.

“I think we had 15 or 16 hits in that game, and we gave up four runs.”

Cambrie Hixson went 3-for-4 for the Lady Wildcats. She came up with two doubles and drove in four runs.

Makenzie Miller was 2-for-5 with a double three runs and two RBIs.

Morgan Perry went 2-for-5. Hickman was 3-for-5 with two doubles, and Bradshaw had a hit and knocked in a run.

In the circle, Hickman tossed a complete game, going seven innings. She gave up four runs (three earned) and 10 hits. She had seven strikeouts and didn’t walk a batter.
