Beavers escape with win over Mavs

The Anderson County Mavericks dropped a district game to visiting Karns last Tuesday evening, falling by a score of 68-64.

The Mavs’ Spencer Chandler led all scorers with 22 points. He also had nine rebounds in the loss.

No other game stats were available at press time.

Anderson County was scheduled to host Campbell County last Friday but that game was postponed due to weather — Campbell County was not allowed to travel. The game has been rescheduled for Saturday, Feb. 10.

The Mavericks are slated to return to action this week when they host archrival Clinton on Friday. Anderson County topped the Dragons 63-61 in the Don W. Lockard Gymnasium on Dec. 5, when Marquise Gallahar drilled a late 3-pointer to win the game.

At halftime of the Clinton game, former ACHS and Lady Vols’ standout Shelly Sexton Collier will be recognized. Sexton played three years at Lake City High School before playing her senior year at the newly opened ACHS.

She was a member of Pat Summitt’s first national championship team in 1987. She also spent four years coaching the Clinton Lady Dragons.

The Mavericks travel to Halls on Tuesday. On Dec. 8, Anderson County beat the Red Devils 64-55.

Tip-off for each game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
