Whisperin’ Bill Anderson? Kid Rock?

Clinton residents’ trip to Nashville land them in music video

Longtime Whisperin’ Bill Anderson fans Jason Lawrence, his daughter Miranda and her friend Kennedi Brown took a last-minute trip to Nashville and ended up being in a music video featuring Anderson, Kid Rock, Gretchen Wilson, Jeannie Seely, Tanya Tucker and other celebrities.

“I’ve been aware of Bill Anderson for years because I used to listen to country music on the farm,” Lawrence said.

He grew up on a 200-acre farm in Indiana and listened to all kinds of country music, he said. He met Anderson’s manager in Pigeon Forge a few years ago and followed him on Facebook.

When Anderson’s manager put a call out for extras in a music video, Lawrence expressed interest, not knowing it was for Anderson.

“The only [celebrity] the kids knew was Kid Rock,” Lawrence laughed.

The music video, which is about celebrating Christmas at Waffle House, took place in Hermitage, near Nashville. Kid Rock plays a cook who takes bites out of the customers’ food and argues with the staff.

“The girls got to see the work of the camera man, actors and actresses, and the director,” Lawrence said.

The process was a lot of “hurry up and wait,” according to Lawrence. But when it was busy, it was very busy.

“This is the first video we’ve been in,” he said. “We would get ready to shoot and they’d tell everybody to be in their places, but then they’d work on something else. So we’d play with the dogs and talk to their owners, and then shoot the scene. It got hectic.”

The girls were very excited, even though Lawrence warned them that their parts might be edited out.

They got to meet Kid Rock, but not for long.

“He was on a tight schedule,” Lawrence said.
