The Clinton Blaze and Lady Blaze joined forces with the Clinton City Schools faculty for the second annual students-teachers game Saturday night at Arowood Arena.

The Black Team edged the White team 36-33 in the game, which was played with an intersquad format on the newly christened E.T. Stamey Court.

The Lady Blaze played the first and third quarters while the Blaze played the second and fourth quarters.

“It was a great night and we had a packed house,” Clinton City Schools athletic director E.T. Stamey said.

Teacher Jill Herman led the Black Team with nine points. Christin Webb, another teacher scored a game-high 12 points for the White Team.

Both Herman and Webb played basketball at Powell High School. Webb also coached the Lady Panthers for a time after serving as a coach at Powell Middle School.

Proceeds from the game will benefit the Teachers Supply Depot.

It was a big day as Jazzy DJ Johnson provided music for the evening’s festivities.

Kinley Crowley sang the National anthem and the Blaze dancers provided the halftime entertainment.

The Blaze and Lady Blaze players introduced themselves and the teachers to the fans. They also plugged the respective schools they attended.

Teacher Cotton Ball Murphy won the half-court shootout. She scored four points in the game for the White Team. Scott Johnson had four for the Black Team.

First Responders Game: Arowood Arena will host one more game as the Clinton Police Department will take on the city’s Fire Department on Jan. 31 at 7 p.m.

The game will be a fundraiser for the Blaze athletic program, which continues to grow. It is in the second year since its inception. It has grown by leaps and bounds thanks to the support of the Clinton Community.

The game was originally scheduled for this Saturday (Jan. 19) but was postponed so the first responders, who have been practicing, can adjust their respective work schedules.

Track clinic and meet set for April: Clinton High School will host a track clinic for the Blaze on April 18 at the Clinton High School track. The camp will be run and instructed by the Dragons track coaching staff and athletes and Stamey noted that the elementary school athletes would compete in a meet following the clinic.

Bowling coming soon: The Blaze will field bowling teams this spring beginning in March.

Bowling will be open to fifth and sixth graders this season.

Stamey said that the district will recruit potential players and added that anyone interested could reach him by e-mail at stameye@clintonschools.org.
