The Anderson County Clinton City Retired Teachers Association presented scholarships to two graduating seniors on Friday, May 1.

Though this presentation is usually made at the group’s May meeting, present circumstances dictated a change in procedure, and the recipients received their awards from Patsye Thurmon, president of the association, on the steps of the courthouse.

The recipient from Anderson County High School was Sheyenne Sweeney, daughter of David Scott.

She plans to go to the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and go into the field of zoology or animal science.

The recipient from Clinton High School was Areesha Paige Moore, daughter of Jason and Danielle Hamock.

Paige plans to attend Roane State to obtain her associate’s degree and then to enroll in the 2+2 program offered by Tennessee Tech at Roane State. She would like to be an elementary school teacher.

Funds for the scholarships were raised at the annual association auction held at the group’sDecember luncheon.

Local businesses making contributions to the auction were: Anderson County Co-op, Clinton Courier News, Clinton Drug, Food City, Fox Toyota, Hammer’s, Harrison’s Restaurant, Herb Clark State Farm Insurance, Holley-Gamble Funeral Home, Hoskins Drug Store, Ironic Home Decor, Knight’s Florist, Richie Noe Chiropractic Care Center, Sam Franklin Florist, Small Paws Bed & Biscuit, Southern Bank, Steve Pyatt Insurance, Pat Stonecipher, Alvin Taylor, Walmart, Susie Wiley, and Willow Ridge Nursery.

The next meeting of the association is scheduled for Tuesday, August 11, 2020, at 1:00 p.m. at Harrison’s Restaurant. All newly retired teachers are urged to attend as the luncheon guests of association.
