GLENN AUSTIN SILVER

Glenn Austin Silver, 81 of the Batley community, was called home to be with the Lord Sunday, Nov. 22, 2020.

He was born Sept. 26, 1939, in Marion, N.C. Glenn moved to Oak Ridge in 1944 and graduated from Oak Ridge High School, Class of 1957. In 1958 he married the love of his life, Shirley Norene Jett. He enlisted in the United States Navy where he served for four years as a helicopter mechanic on the USS Yorktown. Glenn later attended University of Tennessee where he earned his bachelor of science degree in 1968. He worked for TVA as a mechanical engineer, retiring after 30 years. Glenn lived a life of Christian virtue leaving a legacy of generosity to numerous people including those he did not know. He loved to read and watch old westerns. He was an avid automobile enthusiast who loved collecting and restoring cars.

Glenn was preceded in death by: Parents, J.D. and Hessie Silver; brother, Carroll Silver.

Glenn is survived by: Wife of 62 years, Shirley Jett Silver of Batley; children, Christopher Silver and Brittany Bowman of Batley, Devonne Silver Moore and Roger Savage of Knoxville; grandsons, Noah Silver of Cleveland and Ray McClung of Harriman; granddaughter, Morgan Silver of Cleveland; great-grandson, Louie McClung of Knoxville; numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Visitation will be held from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 28, 2020, at Batley Baptist Church. Funeral service will begin at 3 p.m. with Brother Luke Kidwell officiating. Burial is immediately follow at Batley Baptist Church Cemetery.
