Bruce L. Keck

Bruce L. Keck, 86, went home to be with his Lord on July 27. Bruce was the loving husband of Shirley Keck. They enjoyed more than fifty years of marriage.
 Born in Eden Prairie Minnesota, Bruce was the son of the late Waldo and Pauline Keck.

He is survived by his sister-in-law, Pat Peel; brother-in-law, John Hyatt; sister-in-law, Rita Hyatt and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Bruce was a loving, kind-hearted man who dearly loved his Lord.
 He earned a Bachelors in Science from the University of Illinois, Masters in Science / Oceanography from the University of Rhode Island, and a Masters in Library Science from the University of Washington. He retired as the Administrator of the NOAA Library in Reston, Virginia. Bruce served in the U.S. Navy and Coast and Geodetic Survey as Lieutenant Commander. He also served in the U. S. Army National Guard and retired as Sergeant First Class.


Bruce was a highly regarded tubist and bassist. He enjoyed participating in national and local community bands and orchestras. He was a member of Windjammers International, an organization dedicated to preserving traditional circus music. He was also a member of the Tennessee Valley Ensemble, and the Oak Ridge Community Band. Recently Bruce became an avid attendee and participant of the annual Jonesboro Tennessee Story Telling Festival.
 Bruce especially enjoyed being a member of the musician team at Bethel Baptist Church. Also, he was devoted to serving the Lord in providing the children’s message at St. Mark. He always closed the message with singing Jesus Loves Me. This was a special ministry to Bruce.

He will be missed by the wonderful church families at Bethel Baptist and St. Mark.
Family will receive friends at Woodhaven Funeral Home, located at 160 Edgemoor Rd. in Powell on Friday, Aug. 2, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with service to follow. Internment service at 2 p.m. with Military Honors. Pastor Daryl Taylor from Bethel Baptist Church will officiate.
