Gale Richard Engelke

Gale Richard Engelke, 69 of Powell passed away on Friday, July 4, 2025. Gale was a devout Lutheran and a committed follower of Jesus Christ.

He had a long, successful career as a graphic artist, page designer and editorial cartoonist for E.W. Scripps newspapers in Florida, Colorado and Tennessee, including the News Sentinel in Knoxville and the Rocky Mountain News in Denver

Most recently, he was a graphic artist and designer for The Courier News in Clinton, from which he retired in 2023.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul John and Ruby Mae Engelke, and brother, Russel. He is survived by his wife Rhonda Harbin; siblings, Roger Engelke, Sandi Reichling, Milton (Virginia) Engelke, Marvin (Elaine) Engelke, Gary (Eileen) Engelke, and Cindy (Alan) McReynolds; also leaving behind multiple nieces and nephews; his dearly loved dogs, Fletcher and Bandit; and a host of other farm critters. A special thank you to Gale’s extended family, Alex and Theresa Joseph, Peggy Laxton and Jeffrey Moser.

The family will receive friends on Friday, July 11, 2025, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Mynatt Funeral Home, Powell Chapel, with a service to follow at 1 p.m. The Rev. Mike Harbin will be officiating with music by Tim and Jodi Harbin. An interment will follow at 3 p.m. at Oak Ridge Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations to be made to the Humane Society of Tennessee Valley and Faith -n- Friends.

Pallbearers include Luke Harbin, Isaac Harbin, Alex Joseph, Jeffrey Moser, Tim Harbin, and Perry Harbin.
