BEVERLY ANN DAVIS

Beverly Ann Davis, better known as Ann, 71, Knoxville, passed away Tuesday, June 5, 2018, at Parkwest Medical Center in Knoxville.

She enjoyed reading and watching movies. Ann loved her grandsons, whom were a big part of her life.

She was preceded in death by: Parents, Norman W. and Mary Alene Ogle; and husband, Kirk Johnson.

Ann is survived by: Son, Scott Davis of Knoxville; step-daughter, Stephanie and husband Dr. Michael Green of Knoxville; brothers, Terry Ogle and wife Brenda of Birmingham, Ala., and Larry Ogle and wife Jo Ann of Clinton; sisters, Shirley Cook and husband Sherrill of Clinton, and Kathy Shoopman and husband Wimp of Clinton; three grandsons, Dillion, Nathan, and Rhyne Green; and a host of other relatives and friends.

All services will be private for Ann.

VIRGIL ALLEN GARNER SR.

Virgil Allen Garner Sr., 73, Powell, passed away Sunday, June 3, 2018, at his home in Powell.

Virgil was of the Pentecostal faith and was raised in the Blockhouse Valley area. He enjoyed fishing and tinkering with small engines. He was a craftsman and liked building birdhouses. Virgil was a member of the VFW. He was a happy soul and enjoyed making people laugh. Virgil was a loving father and grandfather and was surrounded in prayer by his family and friends when he passed.

He was preceded in death by: Parents, Murk and Mable Garner; brothers, Anderson, Ralph, Glen, Kenneth, and Dean Garner; and sisters, Linda Lawson and Charlene Reagan.

Virgil is survived by: Children, Virgil Garner Jr., Scott Garner, and Tawana Morirty, all of Ft. Wayne, Ind.; brothers, Arnold Garner of Strawberry Plains and Ricky Garner of Clinton; sisters, Darlene Swopshire of Heiskell, Kathy Shelton of Powell, and Janice Dockery of Tazewell; grandchildren, Kyler, Keaton, Magen, and Carter; best friend, Ed Johnson; as well as several step-children, step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends.

Virgil’s family will hold a memorial service at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 7, 2018, at His Hands Reaching Church on Offutt Road in Clinton. A graveside service will immediately follow the memorial service at Farmer’s Grove Baptist Church Cemetery on Blockhouse Valley Road in Clinton.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to His Hands Reaching Church in honor of Virgil.

JERRY MARTIN

Jerry Martin, 68, Clinton, passed away at his home Sunday, June 3, 2018.

He was a past member of Farmers Grove Baptist Church.

Preceded in death by: Mother ,Maxine Pauline Martin, for whom he loved so much; father, Hayes Martin; and sister, Opal Grooms.

Jerry enjoyed riding his motorcycle at a younger age and loved long summer days when living on Hendrickson Drive and E. Maire Avenue the majority of his life.

There will be a short graveside service 10 a.m. Monday, July 9, 2-18, at Sunset Cemetery in Clinton.

NATHAN K. STONECIPHER

Nathan K. Stonecipher, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed peacefully on the morning of Friday, June 1, 2018, at his son’s home in Irwin, Penn.

He is survived by: His wonderful wife of 62 years, Ellis Stonecipher. He was a loving father to his daughter, Martha Stonecipher Gold and son-in-law Andrew Gold; son, Robert Russell Stonecipher and daughter-in-law Sherri DeMaria Stonecipher; four grandchildren, Lauren Ludovicy, Lindsay Penn, Nathan Stonecipher, Rachel Stonecipher; and one great-granddaughter, Judee Corvina.

He is also survived by: Sister, Nancy Hightower; half-brother, Steve Wilson; and countless other dear relatives and caring friends.

Nathan was born in Oliver Springs on Aug. 20, 1935. He was a popular athlete at Oliver Springs High School and was very active in the Oliver Springs Historical Society. In addition to his home in Tennessee, Nathan also lived for many years in Monroeville, Penn., and Las Vegas, Nev. Nathan will be laid to rest in the Oliver Springs Cemetery alongside his mother and father.

The family will have a graveside service at 9 a.m. Thursday, July 5, 2018, at Oliver Springs Cemetery.

A gathering of family and friends will be held immediately following the graveside service at the Oliver Springs Historical Society Museum.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the historical society.

JULIAN DENNICK WICK

Julian Dennick Wick, 88, Clinton, passed away Friday, June 1, 2018, at The Lantern at Morning Pointe in Clinton.

He was born Sept. 24, 1929, to the late George and Margaret Clingan Wick in Youngstown, Ohio.

Julian was a veteran of the United States Navy and was stationed in Key West for part of his enlistment. He was involved in a variety of careers during his lifetime. Among these were Knoxville College Dean of Admissions, Minister at Bellflower Presbyterian Church of Bellflower, Calif., Certified Hypnotherapist, Mediator with Knoxville General Sessions Civil Mediations, along with time with the New York Metropolitan Opera.

In addition to his parents, he wa preceded in death by: Life Partner: Lloyd Trent Davis; sisters: Adeline (Addie) and Gilbert James, Mary Anne Wick; brothers: James and Carol Wick, and Thomas and Anne Wick

He leaves behind: Brother, John and Rose Wick (Atlanta Ga.); along with several nieces, nephews and a host of other family and friends.

The family will receive friends from 2 – 3 p.m. Sunday, June 10, 2018, at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home, with the memorial service to follow at 3 p.m. His burial will be at Belmont Park Cemetery in Youngstown, Ohio.

MARIE EDWARDS

Marie Edwards, 82, Oliver Springs, passed away, Thursday, May 31, 2018, at her home.

Mrs. Edwards was born Nov. 20, 1935, in Carter County. She lived most of her life in this area and was a member of Beech Park Baptist Church.

She loved doing crafts and quilting with her church family and also dedicated a lot of time to her family.

She was preceded in death by: Parents, Jack Griffith and Viola Griffith; husband, James W. Edwards; brothers, Robert and Phyllis Griffith, Bill Griffith, and Ralph Griffith; brothers-in-law. Alford and Mary Edwards, George Edwards, and Roger Daniels.

Marie is survived by: Brother, Richard Griffith of Atlanta, Ga.; by sisters, Judy Daniels of Rockwood, Ann Davis and Don of Clinton, and Jane Griffith of Claxton; sisters-in-law, Brenda Keene of Knoxville, and Shelby Brown of South Carolina; she is also survived by special neighbors, Cecil Holland and Tammy and Eugene Kelley; along with a host of extended family members.

The family received friends from 1 – 2 p.m. Monday, June 4, 2018, at Premier Sharp Funeral Home. The funeral followed at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Robbie Leach officiating. Burial and graveside services followed at Anderson Memorial Gardens.

MARY JO RICHARDSON

Mary Jo Richardson, 87, Southbury, Conn., died May 31, 2018, at her home surrounded by her loving cats.

Jodie, as she was known by her family and friends, was born Nov. 7, 1930, in Clinton, near Knoxville.

Her parents were Josephine Scruggs Richardson (a musician and organist) and J. Bailey Richardson (a musician and insurance salesman).

Jodie graduated from Clinton High School and Maryville College, where she earned a bachelor degree in music. After moving to Manhattan, Jodie embarked on a 40-year career at Reader’s Digest magazine. She began in the public relations department and for many years was a magazine research editor. In 1992 she and her English friend, Marion Davis, moved to Heritage Village. Jodie was a director of her condo board, part of the Heritage Village Ambulance Association, a co-founding member of PAWS (an animal rights group) and sat on the Commission for Senior Services. As an active member of South Britain Congregational Church, she was at various times a Deacon, chairman of the Outreach Committee and on the Music Committee. The church appreciated her recent major contribution for an enhancement to the organ.

She is survived by: Grace Scruggs Allen, her special cousin and her family from Nashville.

Jodie was a generous and kind friend. In her memory, please call a neighbor or friend today.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 15, 2018, at South Britain Congregational Church, Rte. 172 in South Britain, Conn.

A reception will follow in the parish hall.
