CURTIS BYRGE

Curtis Byrge, 75, Clinton, passed away Wednesday, May 2, 2018, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.

He was born Dec. 25, 1942, in New River to the late Eli and Willie Marie Reynolds Byrge. Curtis attended Free Communion Baptist Church in New River. He enjoyed playing music and going to church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: Sisters, Mary Daugherty and Laura Lou Byrge; and brother, Cordis Byrge.

Survivors: Brother, Johnny Byrge of Oliver Springs; sister, Julie Byrge of New River; nieces and nephews, Randy Daugherty, Andy Daugherty, Pete Daugherty, Lee Daugherty and wife Laura, Rhonda Byrge and husband Mike; special friends, Maggie and Georgia Phillips; several great nieces, great nephews, and host of other relatives and friends to mourn his passing.

Visitation was from 5 – 7 p.m. Saturday, May 5, 2018, at Hatmaker Funeral Home in Lake City. Funeral service was held at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 5, 2018, in the Hatmaker Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Kevin Ward officiating.

A graveside service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 6, 2018, at Grave Hill Church Cemetery in New River.

WILLIAM EDWARD CLOWERS

William Edward Clowers, 71, Claxton, was born Jan. 24, 1947, and went to be with the Lord May 2, 2018.

He was a U.S. Army Veteran.

William leaves behind: Loving wife, Wanda Clowers; brother, Norman Bob Clowers; several sisters-in-law; three daughters; two sons; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; many special friends.

He was preceded in death by: Parents, Charles and Claira Clowers. Receiving of friends and family for a Celebration of Life was held from 6 – 7 p.m. Friday, May 4, 2018, at Dante Baptist Church.

PENNY SUE BAKER

Penny Sue Baker, 50, Knoxville, passed away Tuesday, May 1, 2018, at her residence.

Penny was born Oct.14, 1967, in Lake City. She was a member of the Cumberland View Baptist Church “Swag.” She enjoyed reading, being a mother and playing games on her phone.

Penny was preceded in death by: Mother, Rose Hawkins Byrd; brothers, Larry and Terry Seiber; and sister, Kathy Lively.

Survived by: Father, Frank Marlow of Lake City; husband, Jackie Baker of Knoxville; sons, Cody Seiber of Knoxville, Nathan Kesterson of Alabama, Little Jack Baker of Knoxville; daughter, Heavenly Baker of Knoxville; brothers, David Marlow of Knoxville, Timmy Marlow of Knoxville; sisters, Lena Williams of Clinton, Sheena Atkins of Alabama, Faye Turner of Knoxville, Frankie Bradford of Clinton, Maggie Marlow of Knoxville; and many special friends and family.

Visitation was held from noon – 1 p.m. Monday, May 7, 2018, at Hatmaker Funeral Home. Funeral service was at 1 p.m. Monday, May 7, 2018, in the Hatmaker Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jimmy Lindsay officiating.

Interment followed the funeral service at the Mountain View Cemetery in Lake City.

GRACE MOORE

Grace Moore, 101, Briceville, passed away Sunday, April 29, 2018, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge surrounded by her family.

Grace was born Feb. 14, 1917, in Windrock, the daughter of Byrd and Effie (Duncan) Daughtery. She spent her early years living in various mining camps in Kentucky and Tennessee. On June 2, 1934, in Briceville she married John Moore. She lived in Briceville from the time of her marriage to her death. She was a faithful member of Walden View Baptist Church. She loved going to church, sitting in the front porch swing eating ice cream during the summer, and being with her family.

She was preceded in death by: Parents; husband; infant son, William Byrd Moore; infant Daughter, Caroline Lee Moore; brother, Edgar Daughtery; sisters, Bertha Seiber and Anna Mae Dison; and grandson, Tim Moore.

Survivors: Sons, Curtis and wife Cathy Moore of Oakdale, Kenny and wife Laura Moore of Caryville, N.B. (Pete) Moore of Briceville; grandchildren, Patty Humphrey of Powell, Regina Bailey of Lake City, Greg and wife Wendy Moore of Briceville, Cynthia and husband Rick Shelby of Valparaiso, Ind., Kristi Moore of Michigan City, Ind., Michael Evans of Indianapolis, Ind., Katy and husband B.J. Ellis of Greenwood, Ind., Gary and wife Jackie Kite of Briceville; 18 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and a host of many other family members and friends.

Visitation was held from 5 – 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 2, 2018, at Hatmaker Funeral Home.

Funeral service was at 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 2, 2018, in the Hatmaker Funeral Home Chapel in Lake City with the Rev. Charlie Green and the Rev. Jimmy Ault officiating.

Family and friends met at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, May 3, 2018, at Circle Cemetery in Briceville for a graveside service.

RUTH E. WEAVER

Ruth E. Weaver, 81, passed peacefully April 12, 2018, with her family by her side.  

Many people referred to her as “Nanny,” because she was to many, their grandmother.

She loved gardening, yard sales, and being around people talking, laughing, and telling only stories she could tell. Family gatherings, holidays, and pool parties were always favorites of hers. She loved her family and friends dearly. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her life’s passion.  She especially loved children, and tended to many over the years. Nanny was of the Baptist faith and she participated in many activities with Clinton First Baptist Church over the years, and also enjoyed Norris First Baptist Church and Pastor David Seiber. She was a great supporter of our Military and proud American.

She was preceded in death by: Beloved parents, Nelson and Esta McCourt; as well her sister, Mary, and brother Loren McCourt, all of Sandusky, Ohio.

Ruth is survived by: Children, Connie and Mark Beaty, Andersonville, Lisa and Barry Hurt, Destin, Fla.; grandchildren, Alishia and Denis Obradovac of Oak Ridge, Christa and Special Agent Horace Taylor, Belleville, Ill., Nicholas and Karli Beaty of Andersonville, Chase Hurt, Destin, Fla.; great-grandchildren, Oaklee Obradovac and baby Lily Beaty; siblings, Evelyn Walls, Thelma Meyer, and Ralph McCourt.

She is also leaving behind her special friend Tammy Duncan; nephew, Gene Weaver; lifelong friend, Tommy Strunk and family; and Tracy and Leslie Huffman.

PATSY MYERS HEDDEN MCBRYDE

Patsy Myers Hedden McBryde, 89, of Clinton, passed away peacefully on April 13, 2018, at NHC Oak Ridge. She was born on Nov. 22, 1928 to James Robert and Ida Davis Myers in Jellico. She graduated from Clinton High School and was a member of the girls’ basketball team. She attended Fort Sanders Nursing School. She was a member of the Timely Topics Club, past chairperson and a member of the Garden Club, and a member of United Memorial Methodist Church in Clinton.

Preceded in death by her parents, her husband, William Thomas McBryde, sister, Betty Myers Thurmond, son, Richard Alan Hedden, Sr., grandson Marcus Cole Payne, son by marriage, Tom McBryde. She is survived by sister, Joyce (Frank) Myers Fiorino of Colts Neck, N.J., sons, Henry (LiHui Hu) Hedden III of Knoxville, Don (Susan) Hedden of Clinton, and daughter, Martha (Mark) Payne of Clinton, granddaughter, Heather (Nate) McPherron of Fort Collins, Col., grandson, James Lee Hedden of Seattle, Wash., grandson, Richard Alan (Justin) Hedden, Jr. of Macon, Ga., daughter, by marriage, Martha Borthen, of Roanoke, Va., sons, by marriage John (Shannon) McBryde of Franklin, Bob (Cathy) McBryde of Gastonia, N.C., and Kelly (Lisa) McBryde of Hixson, daughter in law, by marriage, Anne McBryde, and six grandsons and one granddaughter by marriage, and several nieces and nephews. The family is especially grateful for her excellent care by Cathy Bridges, Mary Rose Phillips, and Myrtle Moretz.

The family received friends on Tuesday, April 17 from 5-7 p.m. at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home. Pat’s funeral service will be held at the Memorial United Methodist Church on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Don Thomas officiating. Interment will follow at the Grandview Memorial Garden.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to United Memorial Methodist Church of Clinton.

BRENDA JOYCE FOUST

Brenda Joyce Foust, age 74 of Clinton went home to be with her heavenly father on Thursday, April 12, 2018 with her loving family by her side. Joyce and her husband Larry were members of Farmers Grove Baptist Church. Throughout her life she loved gardening, flowers, decorating her home, teaching her Sunday School Class, but most of all spending time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her father, LeRoy Gray; mother, Pansy Giles Gray Cooper; brother, Kiffen York.

She is survived by: Husband Rev. Larry Foust, daughters, Denise and husband Mark Palmer of Clinton, Amy and husband Rick Weldon of Clinton, son, Matthew and wife Candi Foust of Kearney, Mo., grandchildren, Rachel Palmer, Harley Palmer, Dane Phillips, Hannah Phillips, Samuel Weldon, Nina Weldon, Kendall Foust, and Savanna Foust, sister, Mary Ruth Morrison of Clinton, as well as several nieces and nephews.

The family received friends from 5-7 p.m., Saturday, April 14, 2018 at Holley Gamble Funeral Home. Funeral services followed in the chapel.
