Virgie Ruth Hackworth
Virgie Ruth Hackworth, 93, a devout Christian and member of Batley Baptist Church, died peacefully at her home on Saturday, June 14, 2025.
Born March 22, 1932, in Anderson County, she was the daughter of the late Lonas and Jennie Jones Haney. Virgie was known for her generous spirit and culinary talents, having served as a cafeteria manager at Norwood and Oliver Springs schools for more than 27 years. She also cooked for countless church gatherings, family events and friends throughout her life. Her food was an extension of her heart, and she had a gift for making everyone feel loved, cherished and, of course, well-fed. She always placed the needs of others before her own and will be remembered by many whose lives she touched through her kindness.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Doug Hackworth; and brothers, Lonzy Haney of Clinton and Roy Haney of Oliver Springs.
She is survived by her son, Ronnie Hackworth; granddaughter, Jessie Hackworth; sisters, Velma Cryer of DeRidder, Louisiana, Shirley Cofer and husband Bryan of Oak Ridge, and Susie Foust and husband Greg of Clinton; sisters-in-law, Brenda Haney and Ellen Parton, both of Oliver Springs; and many nieces, nephews and cousins throughout Tennessee, Georgia, Texas and Louisiana.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday, June 19, 2025, at Batley Baptist Church. The service will begin at 2 p.m. with the Revs. Garvan Walls and Luke Kidwell officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
