AC slugs through five-game week
Anderson County High School’s baseball team endured a rollercoaster ride last week, winning three of five games.
The Mavericks (20-9 overall, 6-2 in District 4-AAA) closed the week with a 5-1 loss at South-Doyle on Friday in Knoxville.
Anderson County held an early 1-0 lead before surrendering five unanswered runs to the Cherokees.
Alex Bond went 2-for-3 to lead the Mavericks at the plate.
Ty Wilson singled and had an RBI.
On Thursday, Anderson County came up short in a 7-6 decision at Carter, despite a strong performance by Easton Beaty.
He went 3-for-4 with a home run, three RBIs and a run scored.
Trent Strickland was 1-for-4 with three RBIs and a run.
The Mavericks opened the week by sweeping a district series against Cumberland Gap.
In the series opener at home, Anderson County rolled to a 19-1 win.
The Mavericks erupted for seven runs in the second inning, added one in the third, and scored 11 in the fourth.
Cumberland Gap scored its lone run in the top of the first.
Bond earned the win on the mound, tossing a complete game.
He allowed one unearned run, one hit and one walk while striking out seven.
He also tripled, scored once and drove in a run.
Beaty had a double and a home run, four RBIs and three runs scored.
Jeremiah Owens also homered, with two RBIs and two runs scored.
Strickland tallied three hits, including a triple and two doubles, with two RBIs and two runs.
Clay Fletcher racked up four hits, including a double, and added three RBIs and three runs.
Wilson had two hits and drove in two runs.
Blake Lowe doubled, scored and knocked in a run.
On Tuesday, April 15, Anderson County blanked the Panthers 14-0 behind a three-hit shutout from Wil Ridenour.
He struck out five over five innings.
Nolan Benson led the offense with three hits, three RBIs, two runs, a double and two stolen bases.
Strickland tripled, stole two bases and scored twice.
Reece Wilkerson doubled, drove in a run and scored twice.
The Mavericks also posted a 12-4 extra-inning win over Sweetwater on Wednesday.
They scored eight runs in the eighth inning to seal the victory.
