Jim “James” Powers, 95, Clinton, passed away Wednesday, April 22, 2020, at Diversicare in Oak Ridge.
He was born March 23, 1925, in Harlan County, Ky., to the late Andy and Lillie Chambers Powers. He was a veteran, having served in the Unites States Army during World War II.
In addition to his parents, James, was preceded in death by: Sons, Robert and Roger Powers; grandsons, Tim and Marcus Powers; brothers, Chester, Herman, Joe, Robert, Marion, James and Julius Powers; sisters, Lucille Williams, Virgie Bray, and Evelyn Powers.
Survived by: Wife, Ruby Powers; sons, Wayne Powers and wife Martha, Herbert Powers and wife Nan, Dewayne Powers and wife Barb; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Family and friends may call at their convenience from noon – 4 p.m. Friday, April 24, 2020, at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton.
A private graveside service will be held at Sunset Cemetery with Pastor Tim Jenkins officiating.

CHARLES FREDERICK LUKE

Charles Frederick Luke, 94, passed away Tuesday, April 21 at NHC Healthcare in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Charlie was born on November 23, 1925 in Lake City, Tennessee to Fred and Myrtle (Harris) Luke. Charlie was preceded in death by his sister, Violet (Luke) Wright and her husband Luke Wright.
During his youth the Harris Family: Oscar and Opal (McDaniel) Harris and their children, Terry, Janet, Joan, Don and Bill was an extended family to him and with them he enjoyed a love of exploring nature, gardening and flowers that was a common thread in all his life.
After working briefly in Detroit, Michigan he joined the Army at age 20. Charlie served in World War II in France and later re-enlisted in the Army and served in Korea until being honorably discharged at the end of the conflict. His sister Violet’s family: Betty, Gary, Linda, and Kay along with their spouses and children provided love and support. Betty and her husband Paul and Gary and his wife Janet lent their love and support often, especially in Charlie’s later years as his health declined. He also enjoyed Leighanne Rhea reading the bible to him when his eyesight began to fail.
After the Army, Charlie worked in Oak Ridge and was a Teamster driver, supplying the vending machines at the “Plants”. During this time, he raised a family in Lake City and Clinton with Velma (Hatmaker) Luke, with son Daniel Luke (wife, Teresa (Terri) Leach Luke) and daughter Lisa (Luke) Yates (husband, John (Randy) Yates). He tended many a garden with Velma’s parents, Morton and Opal Hatmaker and was well loved by them.
After retirement, along the flowers and squash (lots of squash) Charlie had the love of Grandsons (Dustin) Luke Yates (wife, Kelli Kazmier) and Dakotah Luke and great granddaughter Laila Luke. His years in Marlow, Tennessee were spent in a creekside home Charlie made with his surviving wife Willa (Nolan) Luke, whom he loved dearly. Her children, and their grandchildren and great grandchildren became his family. April and James Gates, Connor Gates, Allison Graves, Genie Martinez and Nick Allen are among the many of the “grands” & “greats” that he loved and loved him dearly.
Charlie will be remembered for his devotion to Church, Fraterville Baptist & Popular Creek Baptist, service to his country and love of family. His kindness and easy-going nature were evident to anyone that knew him or met him along his life’s journey. He will be greatly missed on earth, but the gardens and creatures in Heaven will rejoice at his arrival.
Due to current world circumstances, the Luke family has decided to have a private graveside service. There will be a public gathering for family and friends at a later date.

ELMER TRAMMELL

Elmer Trammell, 87, Clinton, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Tuesday, April 21, 2020.
He was a member of Valley View Missionary Baptist Church, where he loved to sing, give praises to the Lord and give his testimony. After being saved, he would fix and give away watches just for a smile. Elmer was a veteran, having served in both United States Air Force and United States Army. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
Elmer was preceded in death by: Parents, Dawswell and Mamie Wilson Trammell; brother, Jr. Trammell; sisters, Mary Trammell and Hazel Trammell.
Survived by: Loving wife of 61 years, Maxie Hatmaker Trammell of Clinton; children, Janet Ewing and husband John of Clinton, Jim Young and wife Mary of Clinton, Cindy Helton and husband Chris of Maynardville; grandchildren, Tim Elrod, Andrea Elrod, Jason Ewing, Kymbr McMurray, and Tyler Young; several great-grandchildren and a host of other family, friends and loved ones.
The family will have a graveside service at Valley View Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Allen Giles officiating.

Keith Michael Monahan, 66, Clinton, went to his Heavenly Home Tuesday, April 21, 2020, after fighting a long, brave battle against cancer.
He was a block and brick mason for many years with Lighthouse Masonry. Keith was a longtime member of Lighthouse Baptist Church in Knoxville. He enjoyed fishing and spending quality time with his family.
Keith was preceded in death by: Parents, Mary and George Nesbit; brothers, Ed, Ray, and John Monahan; granddaughter, Alexis Farmer; his children's mother, Sharon Miller.
He is survived by: Children, Angela (Robert) Hawkins, Keith Monahan II, Christy (Darryl Norton) Monahan; grandchildren, Destiny (Jarrod), Tanner, Michael (Megan), Breanna, Caleb; great-grandchildren, Brynslie and Teagan; sister, Cheryl Brock; special friends, Kara Anderson and Bill Grant; several nieces and nephews and other friends.
Family invites friends to Berry Lynnhurst Funeral Home between noon – 4 p.m. Saturday, April 25, 2020, at their convenience, to pay respects.
The family will have a private graveside service at Lynnhurst Cemetery. The Rev. Dwayne Fortner officiating.

Sue Guy, 75, Oak Ridge, passed away, Sunday, April 19, 2020, at Summit View of Rocky Top.
She was a lifelong resident of this area and of the Baptist faith.
Sue worked in retail and factories all her life and she enjoyed bowling. Sue was an amazing daughter, sister, wife, mom, mamaw and friend.
She was preceded in death by: Parents, Arthur Leon and Martha Wilson; husband, Billy Evan Guy; and by sisters, Billy Joyce Fitzgerald, Jane Ollis, and Linda Franks.
She is survived by: Children, Ronda Wales Dunkley and husband Neil of Johnsburg, N.Y., Ann Wales Tankersley of Oak Ridge, Stacie Guy Woodard and husband Eric of Clinton, and Junior Wilson of Harriman; grandchildren, Amber Dunkley, Courtney Dunkley of New York, Maranda Tankersley of Nashville, Rodney Coker and wife Chasity of Powell, Nicoe Webb and husband Lee Turnbill of Knoxville, and Dawson Woodard of Clinton; great-grandchildren, Norah Caselli of New York, Vasanti Collins and Sullivan Collins of New York, Lenna Braunlus of New York, and Hannah Coker of Powell; sisters, Lois Oshell of Rockwood, and Mary Barr-Edelbach of Kingston; and by special friend, Harold Wilson of Jacksboro.

Charlotte Marie Smith Cox, 77, Caryville, passed away Saturday, April 18, 2020, at her home.
She was born April 10, 1943, to the late Ester and Delia Renner Smith in Lake City. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Lake City. Charlotte enjoyed spending time with her “special grandchildren,” Emerson and Cooper Cardwell. She also loved her grand-dogs, Rosco, Daisy and Chewy.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by: Niece, Lisa Jackson; nephew, Keith Smith; brother, Jim Smith; sisters-in-law, Bobbie Smith, Carolyn Smith and Jane Good.
She is survived by: Daughter, Gabrielle Williams and husband David; sisters, Mildred Shepherd and husband Bob, Billie Jean Olvey and husband Joe; brothers, Bob Smith, Don Good, and Paul Smith; sister-in-law, Colleen Smith.

Michael Trent Shelton, 18, passed away Friday, April 17, 2020, surrounded by family.
A Knox County native, Michael was born to Angel and Michael Eric. He was a senior at Clinton High School. Michael enjoyed welding and loved to walk and be in nature. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church. Michael was active in the Big Brothers Big Sisters organization, were his Big Brother was Tony Bowers.
He was preceded in death by: Mother, Angel Marie Shelton; and his paternal grandmother, Cathy Cridge.
Left to honor Michael’s memory: Father, Michael Eric Russell; two brothers Austin and Brandon; grandparents, Sandy and Roger Woods and Trent Russell; aunt, Misti Bolden; special cousin and her son, Makayla Copley and Mason; cousins, Jayden Riley, Matthew, Jeremy, Daniel, Justin and Teresa Kay; plus several aunts, uncles and host of other family and friends.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 22, 2020, at Woodhaven Funeral Home, 160 Edgemoor Road in Powell, where Melvin Myers will officiate.

Avelyne Dawn Lunsford, Powell, God’s precious little angel, sent to us April 3, 2020, and returned to our Savior’s arms on April 17, 2020.
We were blessed to have had the opportunity and privilege to love and care for our beautiful little girl for two blessed weeks. Though our hearts hang heavy, we are comforted in knowing that she is in the arms of Jesus.
Preceded in death and met at the gates by her great-grand parents. and the many relatives to have gone there before her.
The loved ones with whom she has left behind: Loving mother, Brittany R. Lunsford; proud and loving brother, Xaivier Leason Lunsford; aunt, Marikathryn (Katie) R. Lunsford; grandparents, James Leason and Melinda Dawn Lunsford; God-parents, Jason and Dezarae Lopez and dauther Adriana; great-grandmother, Nina D. Lunsford; and many great aunts and uncles, cousins of all generations, and many friends of the family too numerous to name.
Due to the current pandemic our nation and the world is enduring, there will be no gathering of family and friends at this time. We will have a Celebration of Life service held at a later date and will be announced later by Holley Gamble Funeral Home.
