MARTHA BARDING

Martha Barding, Kingston, passed away Thursday, Oct. 18, 2018, at NHC Farragut after a battle with cancer.

She was born Oct. 23, 1939, in Titusville, Fla. She worked several years for Boeing at the Kennedy Space Center. Martha also worked many years at the Roane County Court House as a secretary in the Register of Deeds office. She and her husband, Butch, donated land and formed South of the River Volunteer Fire Department where she held numerous positions over the years and remained very involved as long as her health permitted.

She enjoyed crocheting, knitting and especially loved making family heirlooms for her children and grandchildren. Martha was also an avid University of Tennessee football fan and was very excited about their recent victory.

Preceded in death by: Father, Curtis Revels; mother, Lillian Strickland.

Survivors: Loving husband of 57 years, L.K (Butch) Barding of Kingston; children, Keith Barding and wife Richelle of Kingston, Tim Barding and wife Vickie of Kingston, Tammy Barding Jones and husband Todd of Knoxville; grandchildren, Stephanie, Emily, Erica, Austin, Allie, Kenny, Patrick; great-grandchildren, Morgan, Michael V, Mabry, Eastin, Brinley, Bailey, Ashlynn, Lula, and Julian; sisters, Anita Moore of Tallahassee, Fla., Janice Mazzare of Titusville, Fla.; special aunt, Aunt Zulema Hutcheson of Titusville, Fla.; a host of extended family and dear friends.

The family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. - noon, Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2018, at Fraker Funeral Home with Celebration of Life following at noon in the chapel with the Rev. Phillip Martin officiating.

Entombment will follow at Roane Memorial Gardens.

MARGARET ANN LANE SHARP

Margaret Ann Lane Sharp, 64, Fratersville, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2018, at her residence.

Margaret was born in Detroit, Mich., Jan. 2, 1954. She was a member of Fratersville Baptist Church. She loved to work puzzles, spending time with her grandchildren, reading, and spending time with her family and friends.

Margaret was preceded in death by: Father, James Euell Lane; brothers, Kenneth, Bill, Terry, and John Lane; and step-father, John H. Harmon.

Survivors: Mother, Ruby Mae Harmon of Lake City; husband, Mike Sharp of Lake City; daughters, Vickie Brown and Billy Ray of Halls, Ashley Kidwell and Alan of Halls; brothers, Randy Lane and Tammy of Lake City, Tim Lane of Florida; sister, Faye Hall of Lake City; special friend, Dorothy Phillips of Lake City, Mickey Massengill and Jeanie of Briceville, Nancy Harmon of Briceville; grandchildren, Tyler, Zade, and Madilyne.

Visitation is from 5 – 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21, 2018, at Hatmaker Funeral Home in Lake City.

Funeral service will be at 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21, 2018, in the Hatmaker Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mike Foust and the Rev. Kenny Sharp officiating.

Family and friends will meet at noon Monday, Oct. 22, 2018, at Hatmaker Funeral Home in Lake City to go in procession to the Leach Cemetery in Lake City for a 1 p.m. graveside service.

REV. RICHARD ‘RICK’ L. HOWARD

Rev. Richard “Rick” L. Howard, 64, went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, Oct. 14, 2018.

He was born Nov. 27, 1953, in Anderson County to the late Rev. Berl Howard and Delberta Magnolia Wilson-Howard. Rick was a Baptist minister for 47 years. Rick pastored Westside, Long Hollow, and Cherry Bottom Baptist Church’s throughout his ministry.



He was preceded in death by: Mother, Delberta Magnolia Wilson-Howard; father, the Rev. Berl Howard; and brother, Garry Howard.



He is survived by:

Loving wife of 45 years, Nina Daugherty Howard; daughter, April Oxendine and husband Daniel Oxendine; son, the Rev. Matthew Howard and wife Keisha Howard; granddaughters, Laklee and Madison Howard; brother, Donnie and wife Billie Howard; sister-in-law, Florenda Howard; a host of family and friends.



His number one priority in life was to preach the gospel and help win souls to Calvary.



The family received friends from 6 – 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2018, at Cherry Bottom Baptist Church in Caryville.

Interment will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2018, at Walker Long Cemetery.

GLORIA LOU SHOEMAKER TAYLOR

Gloria Lou Shoemaker Taylor, 76, took her first breath in heaven Sunday, Oct. 14, 2018, joining her husband the Rev. Raymond E. Taylor Jr. of 55 years.

She was preceded in death by: Parents, James Herbert Sr. and Audrey (Douglas) Shoemaker; brother, James “Jimmy” Shoemaker; as well as her in-home health nurse Kurt D. Gauler.

She is survived by: Daughter, Tina Noel Taylor Roach; son-in-law, Albert Roach Jr.; grandchildren, Albert “A.J.” and Tiffany Roach; children in Christ, Bryan and Amy Rigney; grandchildren in Christ, Ronnie and Rena Rigney; brother, Wesley Shoemaker and wife Trish; former sisters-in-law, Betsy Jernigan and Bonnie Shoemaker; nieces, Alison Shoemaker Poor (and family), Sammantha Shoemaker; nephews, Matthew Shoemaker (and family), Aaron Shoemaker, Trey Shoemaker (and wife), and Andrew Shoemaker; loving friends, Lisa Blanton, Lauren Nickleson, Marty and Phil Harbor; a host of extended family and friends.

Mrs. Taylor was a graduate of Clinton High School and Knoxville Business College. She retired from Oak Ridge and served in ministry at numerous churches with her husband the Rev. Taylor for more than 40 years in Texas, Illinois, Missouri, Ohio, and Tennessee.

Mrs. Taylor was a member of the First Baptist Church of Clinton. Her services will be held from 5 – 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, 2018, at the Baptist Church of Clinton with the funeral service to follow at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Mike Garrett and Bryan Rigney.

Mrs. Taylor’s interment will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 19, 2018, at Woodhaven Memorial Gardens.

The family would like to thank all of Mrs. Taylor’s caregivers for their love and caring during the last stages of her life. RALPH TACKETT

Ralph Tackett, 69, Picnic Hill Road, Irvine, Ky., passed away Saturday, Oct. 13, 2018, at his home after a sudden illness.

He was born Oct. 5, 1949, in Lake City, and was the son of Maudie Ann Disney Tackett and the late Arvil Tackett. He was the owner of the Tackett Commercial Interiors and was a member of the Cedar Grove United Methodist Church. He was a former member of the United States Marine Reserves. He had lived in Estill County for the past 22 years.

He is survived by: Wife, Susan Jane Flinchum Tackett of Estill County; stepdaughter: Michelle (Claren) Jones of Fayette County; sister: Linda (Randy) Suddarth of Tennessee; three grandchildren, Matthew Snowden, Jacob Jones, and Emma Clare Jones.

Funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, 2018, at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Greg McClellan.

Burial followed in the West Irvine Cemetery.

Pallbearers: Shane Feltner, James Rutherford, James Lovings, Keith Noble, Chris Roberts, and James Barnett.

Honorary Pallbearers: Charlie Park, Bill Wilson, Bob Calder, Ralph Howell, and Jeff Tate.

SAMMIE WILLIAM MILES

Sammie William Miles, 84, Briceville, passed away Oct. 12, 2018, at his residence.

Sammie was born in Anderson County, Jan. 16, 1934, to the late Charlie F. and Mable Kelly Miles. Sammy was a truck driver for Leroy Mays Trucking. Sammie was a member of the Crystal Lodge F&AM #616, past Master Coal Creek Chapter #155, and member of Coal Creek Lodge #492, where he was a 50-year member.

In addition to his parents, Sammie was preceded in death by: Wife, Trula Miles; brother, Charles Miles Jr.; sisters, Pat Lindsay, Fay Saldona, and Mary Wade; and son-in-law, Mike Hammons.

Survivors: Wife, Angela Fay Sharp Miles of Briceville; children, Michael Miles and wife Lousie of LaFollette, Mark Miles and wife Melissa of Lake City, Teresa Hammons of Benton; brother, Johnny Miles and wife Doris of Clinton; sisters, Lena Beach of Briceville, Linda Parks of LaFollette; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 12 step-grandchildren

Visitation was held from 5 – 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14, 2018, at Hatmaker Funeral Home in Lake City.

A Masonic Service took place prior to the 7 p.m. funeral service.

Family and Friends met at 12:15 p.m. Monday, Oct. 15, 2018, at Hatmaker Funeral Home and went in procession to Anderson Memorial Gardens in Clinton for a 1 p.m. graveside service.

CHRISTOPHER AUSTIN DesMARAIS

Christopher Austin DesMarais passed away Oct. 11, 2018.

He was the son of Philip O. and Jackie DesMarais III of Norris, and Michele DesMarais and Bruce Landrey of Portland, Ore.

Christopher attended the Webb School in Knoxville and graduated from Northwest Academy in Portland. He was an avid outdoorsman, an expert skier and mountain biker, and enjoyed fishing. He spent many joyful hours on the slopes, trails and streams in Tennessee, Oregon, and Utah.

Christopher worked at Kimball’s Jewelers in Knoxville. He started as an apprentice jeweler, but his work ethic, professionalism, and outgoing personality soon had him promoted to sales professional. He recently passed the Gemological Institute of America exam to become a certified gemologist. In addition to designing and making jewelry, Christopher’s creative side extended to photography and painting. Many freight cars on the west and east coasts display the fruits of his creativity.

Christopher was kind-hearted and caring. He recently adopted an abused Husky from Paws and Badges, and it was thriving under his care.

In addition to his parents, Christopher is survived by: Brother, Brandon Wheeler of San Diego, Calif., sisters, Claire Quick-Landrey and Noelle Quick-Landrey of Portland, Ore.; and many, many friends in Knoxville, Portland, and Park City.

A celebration of Christopher’s life with family and friends was held at 1930 Mountain Road in Andersonville, from 5 – 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2018, and another is planned for Portland.

YOSHIKO NAKADATE LEINART

Yoshiko Nakadate Leinart, 83, wife of Ronnie E. Leinart, of Greenville, S.C., died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2018.

Born in Tokyo, Japan, she was the daughter of the late Masayoshi and Yama Higurashi Nakadate.

Yoshiko was of the Soka Gakkai International faith.

In addition to her loving husband, she is survived by: Two daughters, Cathy Burke (Jeff) and Janet Perdue (Mike); a son, Randy E. Leinart (Tammy); five grandchildren, Alan Burke, Rayne Leinart, Samantha Leinart, Landon Perdue, and Mason Perdue; and a great-granddaughter, Emma Grace Burke.

A visitation will be held from 4:30 – 5:45 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, 2018, at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown with a Buddhist prayer service to follow at 6 p.m. in the Downtown chapel.
