ROBERT 'BOBBY' NIER

Robert “Bobby” Nier, 81, passed away peacefully in his home June 11, 2023, due to his battle with prostate cancer.

Born in Norfolk, Va., to Robert and Delight Nier, he attended high school in South Bend, Ind., and studied chemical engineering at Purdue University. Upon his graduation in 1964, he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Army. He enjoyed 25 years of active duty seeing the country and the world with his high school sweetheart Diane (married 1964 - 1981) and was blessed in those early Army years with their two bright blonde-haired daughters, Sherri and Tamara.

After retiring in 1988 from the Army as a Lieutenant Colonel, he settled in Clinton with his second wife Cheryl. They enjoyed their retirement years there until she passed away due to her leukemia and heart condition.

Bobby was certainly strong willed and stubborn at times, but also had a big heart — he will be missed. He was full of knowledge gained from his many travels and experiences in life and was always looking for teachable moments to “pass it on.” He spent a lifetime building models of all sorts — planes, trains, and ships. Some of the most fond and funny memories his daughters have are of the hundreds of hours sitting watching and helping him build radio-controlled planes, only to then wait with anticipation for “launch day” to see how long they might stay in the air. He loved cars and racing, spending much of his six-plus years while stationed in Germany camping across Europe to attend Formula 1 races. He loved dogs and always had faithful companions by his side.

He was preceded in death by: Parents, Robert and Delight Nier; wife Cheryl; and brother, Dick.

He is survived by: Diane and their two daughters (Sherri and Tamara); four grandchildren, Alex, Lindsay, Mackenzi, and Maysen,; and four great-grandchildren, Jamison, Adriana, Khloe, and Jocelyn; and two nephews, David and Mike.

The family will receive friends from 5 – 6 p.m. Friday, June 23, 2023, at First United Methodist Church, where Bobby was a member, with a small service to follow in the chapel at 6 p.m.

Bobby and Cheryl’s ashes will then be committed together in the church’s Memorial Garden.

In lieu of flowers, gifts can be made to the charity of your choice.

One of Bobby’s favorite feelings was the fast speed and wind in his hair while driving his original-owner convertible. We picture him speeding along roads of white clouds, free and painless, through the heavenly gates and into the arms of the Lord.

Until we can meet again, Dad, we love you.

GARNETT CROSS 'GARY' KINCAID JR.

Garnett Cross “Gary” Kincaid Jr. passed away May 20, 2023, in his hometown of Clinton after a long illness.

He was 70 years old. Gary graduated from Clinton High School in 1970 and attended Lincoln Memorial University in Harrogate. He was a master carpenter who could build everything from a tiny bird feeder to a complete house, but was best known for his beautiful decks and outdoor living spaces.

Gary had so many facets to his life, but most of all we remember the depth of his love for his family and devotion to his wife, Angie. He had a great sense of humor and often left behind funny notes or cartoon drawings to be found later. Anyone who stumbled upon a hand-drawn picture of a cow when Gary had been around knew immediately it was from him.

Gary was an avid fisherman who delighted in pulling out a photo of the 8 lb., 4 oz., bass he caught on Aug. 26, 1982 — to be exact — and retelling how, when, and where it was caught. He loved puppy dogs and the University of Tennessee sports, especially Volunteer football. His blood did indeed run deep orange. Gary was an outdoorsman who could name birds by listening to their songs and “cut a rug” in his younger days like nobody’s business.

Gary is survived by: Loving wife of 23 years, Angie Lane Kincaid of Heiskell; sisters, Angie Fonde Kincaid of Knoxville, and Lori Kincaid and husband John Webb of Del Rio; brother and sister-in-law, Ronnie Lane Sr. and wife Rhonda of Knoxville; nephews, Ronnie Lane Jr. of Jefferson City, and Michael Lane and wife Lisa of Knoxville; nieces, Jessica Lane Roberts and husband Christopher of Maryville, and Amanda Lane of Knoxville; aunt, Bronwyn Kincaid Jarvis of Irmo, S.C.; numerous cousins from the Fonde and Kincaid families who were his best of friends throughout his life, especially Martin Walter who was always there when Gary needed him; and dear friend, George McCall of Knoxville.

Gary was preceded in death by: Parents, Garnett Cross Kincaid Sr. and Alice Fonde Kincaid of Clinton; and sister, Shollie Cullom Kincaid of Knoxville.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 25, 2023, at Oak Ridge Memorial Park in Oak Ridge.

(MYRNA) LOU VILES DAVIS

(Myrna) Lou Viles Davis, 81, Clinton, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, May 16, 2023, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.

She was born in Anderson County, May 23, 1941, to Charlie and Ester Turnbill Viles.

Also preceding her in death were: Beloved son, Teddy Davis; in-laws, Ott and Daisy Davis; granddaughter, Kayla Brown; infant great-granddaughters, Gracie and Madison Davis; brothers, Jerry Viles and Ray Viles Sr.; and sister-in-law, Bertha Viles.

Lou is survived by: Loving husband of 65 years, Ray Davis of Clinton; daughter, Kathy (Eddie) Stair of Clinton; granddaughters, Stephanie Stair of Clinton and Holly (Matt) Duren of Lascassas; and great-grandsons, Sam Page of McMinnville and Cooper Duren of Lascassas.

She also leaves special friends Nan Lynch, Kay Stratton, Ann Minga, and Bonnie Dagley, as well as her sweet kitty, Fancy.

Lou and Ray married in 1958 and celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary last month. She spent the last 60-plus years as a faithful and active member of Second Baptist Church and raised her family there. In addition, she retired seven years ago after spending 40 years with Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.

Mom enjoyed many things, but some of the happiest times of her life happened after my brother and I were raised. With a little less responsibility and a lot more time available, Mom and Dad started ballroom dancing and fell in love with it. They loved dancing and developed some of the deepest and dearest friendships of their lives. Mom always said their “dancing days” were some of the best days of her life, and she cherished those precious friends so very much.

Mom always had a fresh pot of coffee and a smile for any family or friend who wanted to drop by to sit and chat for a while (I can’t even imagine the amount of coffee she has gone through over the last 65 years or so).

We are heartbroken but know her sweet boy Teddy welcomed her home with a big hug, and we have no doubt that beautiful smile was on her face upon seeing him again. We know we will see her again soon, but our world is going to be less bright with her gone. We love you, Mom, and will miss you dearly – as we already do.

A special thank you to Gina, Kay, and Nan for the help and support you have given over the past two weeks. You have all been a Godsend, and I cannot thank you enough.

The family will receive friends from 4 – 6 p.m. Saturday, May 20, 2023, at Holley Gamble Funeral Home with the funeral service to follow at 6 p.m.

Family and friends will meet at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, May 21, 2023, and go in funeral procession to Norris Memorial Garden for a 1 p.m. graveside.
