OTTO W. BRISCOE

Otto W. Briscoe, 100, Clinton, passed away peacefully Oct. 30, 2020, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.

He was born Jan. 8, 1920, in Covington, Ga., the son of the late Otto T. and Elizabeth W. Briscoe.

He was preceded in death by: Marie, his loving wife of 73 years; sister, Marjorie B. Anthoine and her husband Bob of Fort Valley, Ga.; brothers-in-law, Jerry Williams, Glenn Rauchle, James D. McLean; and sister-sin-law, Sara Williams, Virgie Rauchle, and Sylvia McLean of Milan.

Otto graduated from Emory University with a degree in chemistry in 1941 and took graduate courses at Georgia Tech. He worked for the Chemical Warfare Service in Huntsville, Ala., before coming to the Y-12 Plant in Oak Ridge in 1943, where he worked for 40 years as a chemist and department superintendent of the Y-12 Analytical Chemistry Department. In his lifetime, he enjoyed playing basketball, tennis, bowling, fishing, golfing, and was an avid reader. He played golf into his 90s. He made two hole-in-ones and shot under his age multiple times.

Former member of the Clinton Lions Club, and an active member of Memorial United Methodist Church where he served as treasurer for 10 years. He was also active in the Wesley Bible Class at Memorial.

He is survived by: Son, William (Bill) and daughter-in-law Donna of Oak Ridge; daughter, Mary Wilson and special friend Frank White of Knoxville; and granddaughter, Erin W. Sharp and husband Tim; and great-granddaughters, Avery and Ellanor Sharp, of Powell; and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express their appreciation to all of Otto’s special caregivers for their loving support.

The family request that in lieu of flowers, memorials be given to Memorial United Methodist Church, 323 N. Main Street, Clinton, TN 37716.

A private graveside service will be held by the family at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.

WINFRED WEBB WOODS

Our Heavenly Father brought Winfred Webb Woods into this world, and on Oct. 30, 2020, Our Heavenly Father, in His perfect sovereignty, brought Winfred to his eternal reward.

Winfred was born in Milan, Tenn., o his parents, the late Raymond and Frances Webb Woods on July 31, 1941.

In his grammar school years his family moved to Clinton.

Growing up in Clinton, Winfred met and married the love of his life. Shirley Jean. Winfred and Jean were married 59 precious years.

Their marriage was a sweet, loving Godly union and a wonderful example for their children and grandchildren.

Winfred, a born-again believer in Jesus Christ, was baptized alongside his wife, Jean. He was a faithful member of Second Baptist Church for 49 years where he taught children, youth and adult Sunday school and served as a deacon.

Winfred dearly loved his family. He enjoyed attending his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events and school activities.

He coached many years with Clinton Girls Softball League. The Woods family has innumerable special memories.

Winfred was a retired electrician having worked at X-10, and K25 for 37 years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: Brother, Donnie F. Woods.

Winfred is survived by his loving, devoted wife, Jean Woods; children, Janice and Dennis Miller, Theresa and Chuck Utley, and Shane and Tina Woods; grandchildren, Jared and Bethany Miller, Jordan Miller, Clayton Utley, Jackson Utley, and Isabella Woods; great-grandchildren, Luca Miller, Brooke Cooper, and Landon Cooper; sister: Judy Woods Rhyne, of Apopka, Fla.; brother, Tim Woods; as well as many special nieces and nephews.

The family welcomes you to attend a graveside service at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2020, at Grandview Memorial Gardens with Dr. Michael Thompson officiating.

DANIEL CARROLL

Daniel Carroll, 71, Clinton, passed away peacefully at home Oct. 30, 2020, with his family and close friends by his side.

He was a proud member of North Clinton Baptist Church. He was a proud United States Army Vietnam Veteran.

He was preceded in death by: Cherished wife of 45 years, Gwen; parents, George and Jessie Carroll; three brothers, Allen, Wayne, and Jeffery; three sisters, Madeline, Patricia, and Corene.

He is survived by: Three sisters, Darlene Hutchens and husband Dean, Diane Lee and husband Allen, Rose Wagner and husband Joe; one brother, Kyle Carroll and wife Renee; beloved nieces, nephews, and numerous close and dear extended family and friends.

The family will receive friends from 5 – 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2020, at Holley Gamble Funeral Home with funeral services following at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Ricky Murphy officiating.

Friends and family will meet at 12:15 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2020, and proceed to Woodhaven Memorial Garden for a 1 p.m. graveside service.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to North Clinton Baptist Church, 411 Park Avenue, Clinton, TN 37716.

ROBERT PITTS

Robert Pitts, 85, Rocky Top, passed away Thursday, Oct. 29, 2020, at The Waters of Clinton.

Robert retired from Department of Energy/Y-12 and was a veteran of the United States Navy. Robert was born May 24, 1935, in Gadsden, Ala., to the late Rueben and Elizabeth Pitts

In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by: Daughter, Janet Webber; brothers, Walter, David, and Crochen Pitts; sister, Myrtle Pitts.

He is survived by: Daughters, Barbara Smith of Lake City and Charlotte Ledford of Clinton; grandchildren, Keith Pitts and wife Marsha of Clinton, Jason Webber and Loren of Clinton, Casey Phillips of Lake City, Dustin Camp and husband John of Norris, Christy Ledford of Clinton, and Brittany Cravens and husband Thomas of Jamestown; eight great-grandchildren; special friend, Juanita Eastridge of Andersonville; sisters, Ann Saxton, Betty Hammitt, and Nan Boyd; brothers, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Pitts and Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Pitts; several nieces and nephews

The family received friends 5 – 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 2, 2020, at Holley Gamble Funeral Home.

EUNICE ANN DUNCAN

Eunice Ann Duncan, 82, Lake City, passed away Sunday, Oct. 25, 2020, at the Summit View of Rocky Top.

Eunice was born Sept. 8, 1938, in Campbell County to the late Rev. Willard Maupin and Mae Barnes Maupin. Eunice was of the Baptist faith. She loved taking care of children, bingo, the beach, Elvis, and she especially loved spending time with family and friends.

In addition to her parents, Eunice was preceded in death by: Husband, Lonnie Duncan; brothers, John and Willard Maupin; and sisters, Pat Powers, Dean Hembree, Delores Poore, and Phyllis Maupin.

Survivors: Daughters, Pam Weaver of Oak Ridge, Becky West and Scotty of Lake City, Donna Lay of Lake City; brothers, Gary Maupin and Pat of Kingston, Otis Maupin and Diane of Lake City; sister, Marilyn McIntyre of Tipp City, Ohio; grandchildren, Alex Weaver, Hannah Weaver.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29, 2020, at Hatmaker Funeral Home with the Rev. Wayne Phillips officiating with a graveside service to follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Lake City.

ADA WOODS

Ada Woods, Andersonville, passed away Sunday, Oct. 25, 2020.

She dearly loved her daughters, sons-in-law, and grandchildren, who surrounded her and sang together as she made her peaceful journey to Heaven.

Music and teaching children were her calling. She was an amazing pianist who had the rare talent of being able to play any church hymn after hearing it once. She loved teaching children and telling them about God’s unconditional love for them.

She was a faithful member and the pianist at New Beverly Baptist Church in Knoxville for a total of 51 years. She also taught the kindergarten Sunday school class for many years and had earlier taught kindergarten at New Beverly Christian School.

Over the last year, she faithfully attended Norris First Baptist Church with her daughter, Jill, and her family. She loved attending services and the adult women’s Sunday school class taught by her dear friend, Mary Hammond.

She was preceded in death by: Husband and love of her life, Bill Woods; parents, Tom and Edna Sawyer; and brothers, James Sawyer and Ralph Sawyer.

Ada is survived by: Her loving family including daughters, Jill Curington and husband Kevin, and Tammie Davis and husband Gary; grandchildren, William Davis, Jonathan Davis and wife Chelcie, Samantha Curington and fiancé Alex Henry, Skyla Curington, and Spencer Curington; brothers, Lloyd Sawyer and wife Phyllis, Billy Sawyer and wife Mary Ruth, and Howard Sawyer and wife Pat; and several nieces, nephews, other family members and dear friends.

The family will receive friends from 5 – 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct, 28, 2020, at Norris First Baptist Church in Norris.

The funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Kevin Curington and the Rev. David Seiber officiating.

Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 29, 2020, at Norris Memorial Gardens in Norris.

The family respectfully requests those attending to wear a mask to protect the family and friends.

RALPH FRED COOPER

Ralph Fred Cooper, 92, Powell, passed away at his residence Sunday, Oct. 25, 2020.

Ralph was a member of Bells Campground Baptist Church. He retired from Sears Roebuck and was a veteran of the United States Army. hroughout his life Ralph loved to hunt and fish. Ralph was born Oct. 14, 1928, in Powell to the late Walter and Beatrice Cooper.

In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by one brother and six sisters.

Ralph is survived by: Loving wife of 72 years, Margie Cooper of Powell; children, Wendell Cooper and wife Sandra of Powell, Regina Lawson and husband Roger of Powell; grandchildren, Angela Nicely and husband Russell, Lori Jones and husband Todd, Kristy Moore, and Isaac Cooper and wife Bethany; great-grandchildren, Bryson Nicely, Savannah Moore, Gage Moore, Mia Cooper, Levi Jones, and Colton Jones; several nieces and nephews.

The family will have a graveside service at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2020, at Bells Campground Cemetery.

HELEN CHRISTINE CARR VINCENT

Helen Christine Carr Vincent, 92, Clinton, passed away Sunday, Oct. 25, 2020, at her home.

She was born Sept. 12, 1928, to the late Harve William and China Belle Rose Carr in Julep, Ky. She was a clerk for the CIA and the FBI, the latter under Herbert Hoover. She enjoyed reading and was a member of Norris First Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by: Husband, George Wesley Vincent; and eight siblings.

She is survived by: Daughter, Theresa C. Vincent; sister, Margaret Oller; several other family members and friends.

The family will received friends at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton from 5 – 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 2, 2020, with the funeral service following at 7 p.m. with the Rev. David Seiber officiating.

A visitation will also be held at Ellison’s Funeral Home in Williamsburg, Ky., from noon – 2 p.m. with the graveside service to follow at Highland Cemetery, also in Williamsburg, Ky.
