Lady Mavs’ come back vs. Central falls short

Anderson County hosted Central High School on Tuesday, Sept. 10. The final score was 3-2 in favor of Central.

The game started off very much against Anderson County, with Central scoring twice in the first half. It just seemed that Central had an edge on the Lady Mavs.

Without Allyssa Wetherington and some phenomenal saves, the game wouldn’t have been nearly so close. She put her all into protecting the goal, with some jaw-dropping jumps and saves to keep the ball out.

After halftime, the Lady Mavs came out swinging, with Laura Wilson scoring for Anderson County with an assist from Riley Hankins.

Not long after, Wilson scored again for with an assist from Madyson Haire.

It looked as if the game was going to end in a tie between the two teams, or move into an overtime period, but, with only 2:30 left in the second quarter, Central scored. Anderson County tried to mount a drive to tie the score again, but Central’s own goalie prevented all their shots and the clock wound down to zero.

Anderson County played hard and the game could have been much higher for both teams if their goalies hadn’t both been so active.
