The Clinton Blaze and Lady Blaze basketball teams got mixed results last week.
On Thursday night, Clinton’s boys toppled First Baptist Academy of Powell 43-32.
Camden Nelson scored 15 points. Zayden Ford added 10 and Kaden Webber finished with seven.
Grant Hannah pulled down five rebounds for the Blaze (8-5).
In the girls game, the Lady Eagles notched a 30-13 victory over Clinton.
Jailie Rodd scored seven points and Leah Hernandez grabbed four rebounds for the Lady Blaze (8-4).
On Tuesday, Nov. 19; the two teams salvaged a split against Knoxville Christian School on the road.
The Lady Blaze fell 29-21 to the Lady Knights despite getting eight points from Topanga Easterday and six from Abby Phillips.
The boys downed the Knights 39-28 as they got 10 points from Jaylon Daniels and six from Kaden Webber. Hannah pulled down four rebounds.
On Monday, Nov. 18; Clinton swept St. Mary’s. The Lady Blaze won 24-12 after holding a slim edge at halftime.
Rodd scored 16 points for the Lady Blaze while Phillips scored five.
The Blaze edged St. Mary’s 41-38.
Webber scored 10 points. Jaxson Alcorn had eight points and five rebounds. Ford came in off the bench and had seven points and two steals.
Upcoming Schedule: The Blaze basketball teams will have the week off for the Thanksgiving Holiday.
They return to action Tuesday, Dec. 3 when they host Norwood Middle. Clinton travels to Caryville on Dec. 5. The Blaze and Lady Blaze return home to host Coalfield on Monday, Dec. 9 and St. Mary’s the following day. Games are slated for 6 p.m. for the girls and 7 p.m. for the boys.
Blaze Athlete of the Week: The Athlete of the Week for the week of Nov. 18 is track and cross country runner Skyler Martin, a fifth grader.

Blaze Academic Clubs: In addition to its athletics programs, CCS has invested in both a reading society and H2O science clubs. These programs were successful last year and Stamey announced that they will continue in 2018-19.
Track Renovations: CCS Athletics Director E.T. Stamey said that improvements on the Blaze’s home track at Clinton Elementary School are planned soon.
CCS Teachers to Compete in Blaze Teachers Bowling League: Area elementary school teachers will compete in a bowling league at Clinton Community Center. League play begins after the Christmas Break.
