Height makes a difference against Lady Mavs

Anderson County’s Lady Mavericks lost to the Cumberland Gap Panthers 57-30 at Norris Middle School on Thursday, Dec. 19.

The Lady Mavs played hard but were extremely handicapped by a height difference between the two teams, especially considering the Panthers had multiple players who were pushing six feet. The Lady Mavs? Not so much.

The Lady Mavs got some phenomenal steals in, and they were very quick on the field, but there’s only so much one can do.

When an Anderson County player is at the top of the jump shooting a basket and a defender can lazily reach out, not even jumping, and flat out block the ball, it’s a bit of a one-sided affair.

The same goes for offense. Multiple times, a Lady Maverick would jump to block a shot from the Panthers, only for the Panthers player to shoot right over her, sometimes without even jumping.

Still, the players never gave up the entire game and played hard until the buzzer.
