May 8 is target for closing on senior center

Right now, it looks as if Anderson County will close May 8 on the purchase of the former Faith Promise Church in Mariner Pointe, which will house the Anderson County Senior Center.

At least that is the date Anderson County County Mayor Terry Frank told the county’s Operations Committee Monday night.

Frank submitted a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to the committee, which basically, she pointed out, outlined who was responsible for what bills.

The Operations Committee held a virtual meeting as a result of the COVID-19 restrictions.

The next step to make the senior center a reality will come Monday, April 20, when the full commission will look at the MOU.

Between now and Monday, Anderson County Law Director Jay Jeager will go over the mayor’s draft of the MOU and make any adjustments deemed appropriate.

Commissioner Phil Yager asked the mayor if the MOU was final. She responded it wasn’t and there still was time to make adjustments.

If the closing on the property does take place May 8, Mayor Frank said it would take 30 to 45 days before the senior center would be ready to open.
