I miss my Mexican food

I am not one to complain.

Much.

But I do want to point out that I’m being all ’Rona scaredy-cat-like and staying out of crowded places and I wear a mask and gloves when I go to the store even though I’m not planning on doing anything illegal and I still get made fun of.

You tell me what’s wrong with Playtex Living Reusable Rubber Cleaning Gloves (a little registered trademark thing goes here) with warm lining household thickening PU waterproof stuff?

And yes, I wore the turquoise. I think turquoise is better at fighting off coronaviruses. I could almost see those little nasty things running away in fear as I strode down the grocery aisle to purchase my animal crackers.

And why make fun of my mask? It’s the same one I wore last Halloween. Nobody made fun of it then.

At least I didn’t wear the rest of the Wonder Woman costume when I went to the store.

But what I miss, appropriately enough, is eating out at Mexican restaurants. Oh sure, you can get all the eats curbside, but eating at a Mexican restaurant is one of the most awesome things you can do on a slow weeknight.

Or even a not-so-slow weeknight.

First off, there’s the music.

Oh yeah, no Enya or twangy country music or some jangly indie rock here, my friends. That’s real, authentic Mexican music you’re listening to and it sounds great.

I’ll admit that one of my many failings as a human being is that I never learned to speak Spanish — heck I can’t even order off the menu without butchering the words, so I just point — and that the songs being played at a Mexican restaurant may contain lyrics making fun of my Wonder Woman mask and my turquoise Playtex Living Reusable Rubber Cleaning Gloves (a little registered trademark thing goes here) with warm lining household thickening PU waterproof stuff.

But you know what? I don’t care! Ha!

Not that I’m going to eat out anytime soon.

I’m just saying of all the things I miss, I really, really, really miss eating at a Mexican restaurant.

I did the curbside pickup once from a Mexican eatery, and once was enough.

I mean, the plate wasn’t hot, that smell of really awesome-tasting food didn’t come wafting up to my face as the plate was set down on the table, and nobody came around to refill my glass of unsweet tea (I had to do that myself), so what was the point?

And I really missed the music.

I asked Alexa to play me some “authentic Mexican restaurant music” and she started blasting out some guy rapping in Spanish.

“Alexa, stop!” I screamed.

Then I poured myself some more unsweet tea.

The experience just wasn’t the same.

I know people who feel the same way about Chinese restaurants.

I think, however, it is acceptable to wear turquoise Playtex Living Reusable Rubber Cleaning Gloves (a little registered trademark thing goes here) with warm lining household thickening PU waterproof stuff at such establishments.

And a Wonder Woman mask.

I don’t know why, but nobody made fun of me when I ventured to such a place for Chinese curb-side.
