BETTY K. SEIVERS

Bettye K. Seivers passed away April 22, 2020, in Franklin.

She was 87 years old. There will not be a service at this time in Nashville at Calvary United Methodist Church, where she was a member, due to the current indoor restrictions on gatherings.

A graveside service will be held for family and friends at 1 p.m. EST Friday, May 1, 2020, at Grandview Memorial Garden located at 219 Longmire Rd. Clinton.

Holly Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton is handling the arrangements.

Bettye was born in Smith County, Brush Creek, to the late Joesph Thomas Kitchings Sr. and Kate Maye Belcher. Bettye was known for her love of travel and seeing the world. She also enjoyed landscaping, reading, and time with her family and friends. She taught Sunday school and worked with the church youth fellowship as well as being a long time member of the Altar Guild at Memorial United Methodist Church in Clinton. She was a 1950 graduate of Oak Ridge High School. She attended Nashville Business College and began working in a bank in Boston when her husband, Charles “Bones” Seivers, was stationed there in the U.S. Army. She continued working in a bank when they returned to live in Clinton, and later worked at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, where she retired from after more than 30 years. After her retirement, they moved to Nashville in the early 1990s. She became a member of Calvary United Methodist Church where she often volunteered her time in the Church office.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles G. “Bones” Seivers.

They never missed a wedding anniversary together and would have celebrated 64 years together Monday April 27, 2020.

She is survived by: Daughter, Debora Seivers Smith (Ben) along with their children, Martha Moss (Brad) and Laura Stacey (Kyle). She is also survived by: Son, David Seivers (Venessa); grandchildren, Chelsea McMasters (Nathan) and Evan Seivers (Emily), along with her two great-grandchildren, Neal McMasters and Sloan Seivers. She is also survived by: Sister-in-law, Frankie Seivers; and a host of nieces and nephews whom she loved very much.

She was preceded in death by: Daughter, Melinda Anne Seivers; siblings, Joe Kitchings, Carrol Kitchings, Kenneth Kitchings, Glyn Kitchings, Ralph Kitchings, and Carolyn Kitchings.

ASHLEY NICOLE COLLINS

Ashley Nicole Collins, 31, Clinton, passed away at Parkwest Medical Center in Knoxville Wednesday, April 22, 2020.

Ashley was very outgoing and energetic, she enjoyed cooking and spending time with her children. One of her signature dishes was cheesy chicken pasta, which everyone seemed to really enjoy. She also loved to color and draw. She was very talented at this and created many fine pieces. She had many friends and loved to spend her free time hanging out with them.

Ashley is survived by: Mother, Christina Ann Crowley Lenderman of Clinton; father, Lindy Collins of Arkansas; grandmother, Barbara Harper of Clinton; daughters, Hannah Marie Collins, Haleigh Ann

Collins, and Hasady Brooklynn Collins, all of Clinton; sisters, Katlyn Dianna Beets and Destiny Cheyenne Crowley; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Ashley's graveside service was at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 6, 2020. at Woodhaven Memorial Gardens in Powell.

ANNA MAE HENEGAR LANE

Anna Mae Henegar Lane of Marlow passed away at her home April 22, 2020.

She was born Dec. 6, 1922, in Campbell County, the fifth of 11 children born to Wheeler and Maggie Bowman Henegar. On Dec. 19, 1943, she married Earl Lillard Lane, who predeceased her on Nov. 26, 1998.

She was also predeceased by all 10 of her siblings.

Mrs. Lane is survived by: Son, the Rev. Kelly (Alice) Lane of Mt. Crawford, Va.; grandsons, Robert (Anne) of Bridgewater, Va., and Mark (Chandra) and their sons Nathaniel and Matthew of Staunton, Va. Also surviving are: Sisters-in-law, Ruth Henegar of LaFollette, and Faye Fredrick of Royse City, Texas; special niece, Angelisa (Garry) Pyle of Andersonville; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Mrs. Lane was a devoted educator. Valedictorian of her high school, Mrs. Lane continued her education at Hiwassee College, receiving her teaching certificate. She later graduated from University of Tennessee with a degree in education. She taught for 41 Years at Marlow Elementary School and was awarded Teacher of the Year for Anderson County in 1983.

Mrs. Lane was active in the life of her church and community. A member of Poplar Creek Baptist Church, she served 40 years as Sunday school teacher, 38 years as church clerk, taught vacation Bible school, sang in the church choir, and was active in the Womens’ Missionary Union. Mrs. Lane was also active in Eastern Star, The Pi Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, Homette’s Club, and the Senior Citizen’s Council of Anderson County. She was also a 4-H Club and Girl Scout leader, and volunteer with Marlow Fire Department.

Her greatest joy came from her family, especially her grandsons and great-grandsons. She loved visiting with them, telling stories, playing games like Scrabble, and encouraging them in their school work.

The family would like to thank all of her faithful caregivers: Debbie Armes, Jeannie Gregory, Brenda Hatton, Beth Long, and Glenna Passmore.

ALEXANDER M. STUART

Alexander M. Stuart, 93, Clinton, died Wednesday, April 22, 2020.

He was the younger of two children born to Dr. and Mrs. Alexander Stuart of Jonesborough.

Preceded in death by: Parents; wife, Marylee Cloyd Stuart; sister, Mary Beil; and niece, Mary S. Beil.

Survived by: Sons, David Stuart (wife Sarah) and Stephen Stuart of Clinton; granddaughters, Adriana and Rebecca; also survived by special nieces, Phillis Crain of Jonesborough (companion Kenneth Rawls), Betty Jo Dempsey (Darrell) and Billie Jean Osborne (Ray).

Alex was an Engle Scout, a graduate of Jonesborough High School, veteran of World War II, graduate of East Tennessee State University and Vanderbilt University. He taught science and math at Sulphur Springs High, and was ordained to the Presbyterian Ministry in 1953. He briefly served churches in Charleston, W. Va., Plantation, Fla., and Knoxville. He was a long-time pastor of First Presbyterian Church of Oak Ridge, where he was active in the struggle for equal public services and rights for all regardless of race, religion, sexual orientation or national origin.

He served 20 years at psychiatric chaplain in Lakeshore Mental Health Institute. He was a Clinical Member of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, and licensed by Tennessee as Professional Counselor, and as a Martial and Family Therapist.

Throughout his life he was deeply concerned with what he saw as three basic evils of our society: Poverty, prejudice, and wars of choice.

Alex lived a long and happy life surrounded by loving family, wonderful friends and good neighbors.

The family is honoring his request that no public service be held.

Private burial will be in the family plot at Maple Lawn Cemetery in Jonesborough with his childhood sweetheart and wife of 68 years.

JIM 'JAMES' POWERS

Jim “James” Powers, 95, Clinton, passed away Wednesday, April 22, 2020, at Diversicare in Oak Ridge.

He was born March 23, 1925, in Harlan County, Ky., to the late Andy and Lillie Chambers Powers. He was a veteran, having served in the Unites States Army during World War II.

In addition to his parents, James, was preceded in death by: Sons, Robert and Roger Powers; grandsons, Tim and Marcus Powers; brothers, Chester, Herman, Joe, Robert, Marion, James and Julius Powers; sisters, Lucille Williams, Virgie Bray, and Evelyn Powers.

Survived by: Wife, Ruby Powers; sons, Wayne Powers and wife Martha, Herbert Powers and wife Nan, Dewayne Powers and wife Barb; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Family and friends may call at their convenience from noon – 4 p.m. Friday, April 24, 2020, at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton.

CHARLES FREDERICK LUKE

Charles Frederick Luke, 94, passed away Tuesday, April 21 at NHC Healthcare in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Charlie was born on November 23, 1925 in Lake City, Tennessee to Fred and Myrtle (Harris) Luke. Charlie was preceded in death by his sister, Violet (Luke) Wright and her husband Luke Wright.

During his youth the Harris Family: Oscar and Opal (McDaniel) Harris and their children, Terry, Janet, Joan, Don and Bill was an extended family to him and with them he enjoyed a love of exploring nature, gardening and flowers that was a common thread in all his life.

After working briefly in Detroit, Michigan he joined the Army at age 20. Charlie served in World War II in France and later re-enlisted in the Army and served in Korea until being honorably discharged at the end of the conflict. His sister Violet’s family: Betty, Gary, Linda, and Kay along with their spouses and children provided love and support. Betty and her husband Paul and Gary and his wife Janet lent their love and support often, especially in Charlie’s later years as his health declined. He also enjoyed Leighanne Rhea reading the bible to him when his eyesight began to fail.

After the Army, Charlie worked in Oak Ridge and was a Teamster driver, supplying the vending machines at the “Plants”. During this time, he raised a family in Lake City and Clinton with Velma (Hatmaker) Luke, with son Daniel Luke (wife, Teresa (Terri) Leach Luke) and daughter Lisa (Luke) Yates (husband, John (Randy) Yates). He tended many a garden with Velma’s parents, Morton and Opal Hatmaker and was well loved by them.

After retirement, along the flowers and squash (lots of squash) Charlie had the love of Grandsons (Dustin) Luke Yates (wife, Kelli Kazmier) and Dakotah Luke and great granddaughter Laila Luke. His years in Marlow, Tennessee were spent in a creekside home Charlie made with his surviving wife Willa (Nolan) Luke, whom he loved dearly. Her children, and their grandchildren and great grandchildren became his family. April and James Gates, Connor Gates, Allison Graves, Genie Martinez and Nick Allen are among the many of the “grands” & “greats” that he loved and loved him dearly.

Charlie will be remembered for his devotion to Church, Fraterville Baptist & Popular Creek Baptist, service to his country and love of family. His kindness and easy-going nature were evident to anyone that knew him or met him along his life’s journey. He will be greatly missed on earth, but the gardens and creatures in Heaven will rejoice at his arrival.

Due to current world circumstances, the Luke family has decided to have a private graveside service. There will be a public gathering for family and friends at a later date.

ELMER TRAMMELL

Elmer Trammell, 87, Clinton, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Tuesday, April 21, 2020.

He was a member of Valley View Missionary Baptist Church, where he loved to sing, give praises to the Lord and give his testimony. After being saved, he would fix and give away watches just for a smile. Elmer was a veteran, having served in both United States Air Force and United States Army. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

Elmer was preceded in death by: Parents, Dawswell and Mamie Wilson Trammell; brother, Jr. Trammell; sisters, Mary Trammell and Hazel Trammell.

Survived by: Loving wife of 61 years, Maxie Hatmaker Trammell of Clinton; children, Janet Ewing and husband John of Clinton, Jim Young and wife Mary of Clinton, Cindy Helton and husband Chris of Maynardville; grandchildren, Tim Elrod, Andrea Elrod, Jason Ewing, Kymbr McMurray, and Tyler Young; several great-grandchildren and a host of other family, friends and loved ones.

The family will have a graveside service at Valley View Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Allen Giles officiating.

KEITH MICHAEL MONAHAN

Keith Michael Monahan, 66, Clinton, went to his Heavenly Home Tuesday, April 21, 2020, after fighting a long, brave battle against cancer.

He was a block and brick mason for many years with Lighthouse Masonry. Keith was a longtime member of Lighthouse Baptist Church in Knoxville. He enjoyed fishing and spending quality time with his family.

Keith was preceded in death by: Parents, Mary and George Nesbit; brothers, Ed, Ray, and John Monahan; granddaughter, Alexis Farmer; his children's mother, Sharon Miller.

He is survived by: Children, Angela (Robert) Hawkins, Keith Monahan II, Christy (Darryl Norton) Monahan; grandchildren, Destiny (Jarrod), Tanner, Michael (Megan), Breanna, Caleb; great-grandchildren, Brynslie and Teagan; sister, Cheryl Brock; special friends, Kara Anderson and Bill Grant; several nieces and nephews and other friends.

Family invites friends to Berry Lynnhurst Funeral Home between noon – 4 p.m. Saturday, April 25, 2020, at their convenience, to pay respects.
