BILLY MARK OAKES

Billy Mark Oakes, 26, passed away suddenly March 14, 2020.

Billy was born in Knoxville May 26, 1993. He was a graduate of Anderson County High School. Billy was a member of Hillvale Baptist Church. He worked and lived in Sevier County. Billy always had a smile on his face and never met a stranger.

He was preceded in death by: Grandfather, Billy T. Oakes; and uncle, Scotty George.

Survived by: Mother, Genevie Barnes of Sevier County; father, J.D. Oakes and wife Angela of Andersonville; grandmother, Flo Oakes of Clinton; aunt, Marie George of Clinton; cousins, Will George and Ann George of Clinton; several aunts, uncles and cousins and a host of other family and friends.

The family will have a celebration of life service at a later date.

TERRY LEE VAN HUSS

Terry Lee Van Huss, born Dec. 4, 1962, went to his Heavenly Father Thursday, March 12, 2020.

He enjoyed working in the yard and flower gardens.

He was preceded in death by: Grandparents, Elmer and Albertine Van Huss, John and Leora Hicks; father, Walter Leon Van Huss; second father, Larry Martin; uncles, Tommy, Ray, Paul, Ed, and Gary Hicks.

Terry is survived by: Mother, Peggy Martin: brothers, Dave and Elena Van Huss, Tom and Cathy Van Huss, Mike and Doris Martin, Ron and Kara Martin; sisters, Teresa and Larry Helveston, Tina and Donny Hodges; several aunts and uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Memorial services will be announced at a later date.

BARBAR LOU RHYNE

Barbara Lou Rhyne, 86, Clinton, passed away March 12, 2020, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.

Barbara was born Jan. 28, 1934, to the late Lonzo and Margret Lawson.

Barbara was of the Baptist faith and attended Lakeview Baptist Church in Clinton. Barbara loved flowers, gardening, going to church and her grandkids. She was kind and gentle, a loving and caring mother and was always in style as she always liked to dress up.

In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by: Husband, Robert Rhyne; son, the Rev. Robert (Bobby) Rhyne; and sister, Margret Milton.

Barbara is survived by: Brother, Jerry Lawson of Clinton; daughter-in-law, Debra Rhyne of Clinton; brother-in-law, Melvin Milton of Jamestown; sister-in-law and her husband, Carolyn and Doug Legg of Clinton; granddaughter, Heather Rhyne; great-grandchildren, Abigail Lemon and Kevin Hampton (Little Rastus); and a host of nieces and nephews as well as extended family and friends.

Barbara’s family received friends from 6 – 8 p.m. Saturday, March 14, 2020, with her funeral service following at 8 p.m. in the chapel of Jones Mortuary in Clinton with Jason Stokes, the Rev. Robbie Poland, and Kevin Hampton officiating.

Barbara’s interment service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 16, 2020, at Woodhaven Memorial Gardens in Claxton.

ASHLEY OLIVIA GROVE

Ashley Olivia Grove, 32, New Harmony, Ind., passed away Thursday, March 12, 2020, at Deaconess Midtown Hospital.

Ashley was born in Evansville, Ind., July 25, 1987, and graduated from Clinton High School in Clinton. She worked at Marshall Disposal as an office manager. Ashley enjoyed crafts and vacationing with her family. She had a big heart and was very loving and kind. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her family, especially her children.

Ashley is survived by: Fiancé, George Martin Jr.; children, Dakotah Lynn Drulard, Gracie Olivia Grove, and George Richard Martin III; mother, Stephanie Gish (Jared); father, Larry Marshall (Marilyn); sisters, Kandi Sumner (Darrell) and Amanda Goebel (Zachary); brothers, Curtis Grove and Rodger McGee (Rachael); special aunts and uncles, Michele Blythe (Jeff), Kristi Fox (D.J.), David Grove (Marcy) and Mike Douglas; grandparents, Ruby and David Grove and Dorothy Marshall.

Ashley was preceded in death by her brother, Justin McGee.

A celebration of Ashley's life will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 18, 2020, at Browning Funeral Home, 738 Diamond Ave., Evansville, Ind., with Pastor Aaron Henson officiating. Burial will follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Wadesville, Ind.

Friends may visit from 2 – 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 17, 2020, at Browning Funeral Home and again from 10 a.m. until service time Wednesday, March 18, 2020, at the funeral home.

BUDDY ASLINGER

Buddy Aslinger, 76, Briceville, passed away Tuesday March 10, 2020, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.

Buddy was born Dec. 15, 1943, in Stainsville. He was of the Baptist faith and was a member of Laurel Branch Baptist Church and also attended Willow Brook. Buddy loved reading his Bible and always told his children to use the Bible as an instruction manual. He loved helping people, working, spending time with his grandchildren, loved watching Gun Smoke and Bonanza, doing bobcat work and being outside.

Buddy was preceded by: Wife, Sheila Burton Aslinger; parents, Calvin and Viola Elizabeth Phillips Aslinger; brothers, Bayless Aslinger and Brian Aslinger.

Buddy is survived by: Special grandson whom Buddy called, “Son,” Kade Aslinger of Briceville; daughters, Wendy and Greg Moore of Briceville, Amy Aslinger of Briceville; brothers, Bennie Aslinger and wife Nancy of Lake City, Blake Aslinger of Lake City, Barry Aslinger of Toledo, Ohio; sisters, Bonnie Foust and James of Oak Ridge, Brenda and Matthew Phillips of Lake City, Barbara and Robert Bullman of Lake City, Betty Aslinger of Toledo, Ohio; grandchildren, Casey Moore, Erin Hague and Paul; great-grandchildren, Jadyn Moore, Keagan Hale, Wrenlee Hague.

Visitation was held from 5 – 7 p.m. Saturday March 14, 2020, at Hatmaker Funeral Home in Lake City.

Funeral service was at 7 p.m. Saturday March 14, 2020, in the Hatmaker Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Roger Leach and the Rev. Jeff Hawkins officiating.

Family and friends will meet at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 15, 2020, at Aslinger-Moore Family Cemetery in Briceville for interment.

THURMAN 'DUSTY' CARROLL JR.

Thurman "Dusty" Carroll Jr., 65, Lake City, passed away Sunday, March 8, 2020, at his residence.

Dusty was born Oct. 7, 1955, in Anderson County to the late Thurman Carroll Sr. and Betty Neeley Carroll. Dusty enjoyed fishing, working with his grandson, Reece, hunting for ginseng and ramps, and spending time with family and friends.

Survivors: Wife of 40 years, Betty Carroll of Lake City; sons, Dewayne Bailey and wife Michelle of Oak Grove, Tony Carroll and wife Monica of Clinton, Thurman Carroll III and wife Michelle of Clinton; grandchildren, Reece Bailey, Wade Carroll, Seth Carroll, Tristen Carroll, and Abigail Carroll; brothers, James Carroll and wife Fredia of Lenoir City, Eugene Carroll and wife Faye of Andersonville; sisters, Kathy Daugherty and husband Donnie of Clinton, Pat Miller of Beech Grove; very best friend, Tony Phillips and wife Tina of Andersonville.

LEONARD JOE SMITH

Leonard Joe Smith, 67, Clinton, passed away Sunday, March 8, 2020, at NHC of Oak Ridge.

He was born Jan. 5, 1953, in Clinton to the late Charlie Taylor and Arvie Lee West Smith.

In addition to his parents, Leonard was preceded in death by: Sisters, Bonnie Woods and Flossie McKamey; brothers, Raymond Lee Smith, and two infant brothers.

Survived by: Brothers, Charles Smith, Claude Smith and Michael Smith.

The family will receive friends from 5 – 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 11, 2020, with the funeral service to follow at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Tim Ambrose officiating.

Family and friends will meet at funeral home at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 12, 2020, and go in funeral procession to Grandview Memorial Garden for an 11 a.m. interment.

WILLIE MAE COAPMAN

Willie Mae Coapman, 80, Clinton, passed away Saturday, March 7, 2020, at her home.

She was born Dec. 14, 1939, to the late Earnest and Francis Hattaway Boruff in Jamestown. She had previously attended Blowing Springs Baptist Church and was currently a member of Grace Point Baptist Church. She enjoyed spending time with her family, and was always willing to lend a helping hand. Willie loved to cook and shop. She also was an avid traveler, taking trips to Florida, and Cherokee, N.C. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by: Husband, Paul D. Coapman; son, Rickey Coapman; grandsons, Johnathan Coapman, Eric Coapman; daughter, Missy Coapman Henderlight; sisters, Jewel Hooks, Faye Boruff, Donna Haun, and Jean Lane.
