DELORIS A. JOHNSON

Deloris A. Johnson, 77, Clinton, went home to be with the Lord Friday, Aug. 10, 2018.

Deloris was born in Clinton on Feb. 28, 1941, to the late Haskell and Lucy Kate Bailey. She graduated from Clinton High School in 1959 and later graduated from Knoxville Business College. She was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church and retired from Department of Human Services after 48 years of service. For many years she was a member of Tennessee State Employee Association.

In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by: Grandparents, John Henry and Mattie Guettner Limburg, and Joseph Nelson and Martha Hamilton Bailey; first husband, Richard Lee Johnson; granddaughter, Jennifer Ann Smith.

She is survived by: Daughter, Melissa and husband Darrell Smith; grandchildren, Chelsea and Michael Waldo, Bradley Smith; aunt, Mamie Jenkins Forester; special friends, Betty Lay, Stan Satterfield, Mike Bridges, and Alex Smith; a host of nieces and nephews and many wonderful friends.

The family will receive friends from 5 – 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 13, 2018, at Holley Gamble Funeral Home with funeral services to follow in the chapel with the Rev. Don Thomas officiating.

Her graveside will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2018, at Woodhaven Memorial Garden.

WILLIAM FRANK DAVIS

William Frank Davis, better known as “Bill,” 65, Clinton, passed away Thursday, Aug. 9, 2018, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.

Bill was a member of Poplar Creek Baptist Church for more than 35 years. He enjoyed fishing, working on cars, reading, and movies. Bill loved his family and spending time with children. He also proudly served his country in the United States Air Force.

Bill was preceded in death by: Parents, Elmer and Helen Davis.

Bill is survived by: Son, Eric E. Davis of Clinton; daughters, Victoria Phillips of Clinton, Tisha White of Indiana, and Tianna Davis of South Carolina; sisters, Judith D. Scott of Kingston, and Penny S, Boyd of Clinton; grandchildren, Teagan Seeber, Eric White, Victoria Travis, Breanna White, Mason Herrell, and River Davis; and a few great-grandchildren.

Bill’s family received his friends from 1 – 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 12, 2018, at Poplar Creek Baptist Church in Clinton. His funeral service immediately followed at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Mark Akers officiating.

Bill's interment immediately followed his funeral service at Poplar Creek Baptist Church cemetery with full military honors.

ROGER KEITH PROFFITT

Roger Keith Proffitt, a loving husband, father, and uncle passed away suddenly Thursday, Aug. 9, 2018.

He was preceded in death by: Loving wife of nearly 40 years, Patricia Comer Proffitt; and his mother, Mabel Proffitt Evans.

He is survived by: Daughters, Summer Perkey of Nashville, Lisa Glandon of Clinton; and brothers, Jeff Proffitt and Kenny Proffitt.

He will be greatly missed by several nieces and nephews and many family and friends.

The family will receive friends from 5 – 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2018, at Holley Gamble Funeral Home.

His Celebration of Life service will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2018, in the chapel of Holley Gamble Funeral Home. Roger’s graveside will immediately follow at Anderson Memorial Garden.

PAUL ARCHER HATMAKER

Paul Archer Hatmaker, 75, Andersonville passed away Thursday, Aug. 9, 2018, at his residence.

Paul was a member of Sequoyah Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by: Wife, Thelma C. Hatmaker; parents, Fletcher and Haley Hatmaker; son, Quint Hatmaker; brothers, Luther, Mirma, and Lee Hatmaker; grandson, Jason Paul Hatmaker.

He is survived by: Sons, David Hatmaker, Timothy Hatmaker; daughters, Euretha Hatmaker Woods, Paula Hatmaker; brother, Gerald Hatmaker; sister, Sue Hatmaker Gunter; grandchildren, Sherry Dixon, Jonathan Woods, Tonya Woods, Tyler Woods, Alex Hatmaker, Spencer Hatmaker, and Elaina Woods; several nieces and nephews.

TRUDY FAYE FOLEY BARNES

Trudy Faye Foley Barnes, 73, died Tuesday July 31, 2018, at UNC Memorial Hospital in Chapel Hill, N.C.

Born in Clinton, she was the daughter of the late Charles Kiker Foley and Gladys Adkins Foley Nichols and was the wife of Walter “Barney” Barnes of Warsaw.

Funeral Services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday Aug. 4, 2018, in the chapel of Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home. The family visited with friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial followed the service in Wayne Memorial Park Cemetery.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by: Two daughters, Sherri Lynn Finch of Dudley and Jennifer Vinciguerra and her husband David of Pikeville; stepson, Mickel Barnes; stepdaughter Trish Delffs of Tampa, Fla.; stepson-in-law, Frank Jugo of Tampa, Fla.; three sisters, Shelby Dorfer and husband John of Angier, Regina Nichols of Southport and Vanessa Johnson of Southport; a grandchild, Natalie Annelle Vinciguerra; step-grandchildren, Ryan Barnes, Robert and Sean Delffs; three step-great-grandchildren, Natalie Barnes, Brayden and Avina Delffs.

Trudy was preceded in death by: Stepfather, Arnold Nichols; stepdaughter, Denise Jugo; sisters, Dorothy Beck, Wilma Sue Schultze, Charlene Lane and Annelle Davis.

JONNATHAN NEIL (BEIL) SHUKITES DAVIS

Jonnathan Neil (Beil) Shukites Davis, 47, Chattanooga, passed away Monday, Aug. 6, 2018, at his residence.

Jonnathan was born in East Chicago, Ind., on Dec. 25, 1970. Jonnathan was of the Baptist Faith. He enjoyed fishing, all sports, NASCAR, playing drums, and playing video games. Jonnathan was an avid University of Tennessee fan.

He was preceded in death by: Grandparents, Cecil Raymond and Beverly Estep, John and Angeline (Carroll) Davis; and aunts, Laura Davis Barnwell, Lottie Davis McGhee, Nancy (Bug) Davis Higdon and husband James Frank Higdon, Viner Jane Davis Harness, Mary Davis Lee and husband Donald Lee; and uncle, Jerry Wayne Davis.

Survivors: Parents, Charles Ronald Davis and wife Vicky Lynn (Estep) Davis of Chattanooga; son, Andrew (Drew) Shukites of Clinton; brothers, Cecil Ray Davis of Chattanooga, Charles R. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2018, in the Hatmaker Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Charlie Mac Marlow and the Rev. Joshua Hawkins officiating.

Interment will follow funeral service at Circle Cemetery in Briceville.

MARGARET ‘LORETTA’ FARMER-JOHNSON

Margaret “Loretta” Farmer-Johnson, a lifelong resident of Clinton, went to be with the Lord Aug. 6, 2018, at the age of 94 while surrounded by her indebted family and friends by her bedside.

Born March 22, 1924, Mrs. Johnson was a devoted Christian who raised her family in the church and dedicated her life to loving her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren with all her heart.

During her life she was a member of South Clinton Baptist, Mount Olive Baptist and Greenway Baptist Churches in Clinton.

She was preceded in death by: Husband, Thurman, and son, Timothy Johnson.

She was also preceded in death by: Father, William Clint Farmer, and mother, Eula Jane Farmer; along with her brothers and sisters, Howard and Earl Farmer and Edith Moore-Farmer and Helen Peoples-Farmer of Clinton.

Mrs. Johnson was also preceded in death by her lifelong confidant, Charlie Hall of Rockwood.

Mrs. Johnson worked for the Clinton City School District up to her attaining work at the Y-12 Department of Energy (DOE) complex in Oak Ridge, where she held various increasing roles of responsibilities within the Mail Department during the years from 1944 to 1994. Handicapped from birth with the use of only her right arm, most who knew Mrs. Johnson would not consider her disability as a disadvantage as it seemingly never slowed her down, nor did it ever cause her to shy away from playing sports or committing herself to her work at DOE-similar to those who grew up in the Great Depression and during World War I as the Greatest Generation. She was as hard-working, loving and as dedicated as they come.

Mrs. Johnson is survived by: Daughter, Deborah Johnson-Russell; grandson, Trenton Hutchison; granddaughters, Lacy Russell, and Marissa Johnson; great-grandchildren, Colby Goins, Braxton Hackworth, Launa Grace Hackworth, and Luke Hackworth.

The family received friends from 6 – 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2018, at Holley Gamble Funeral Home. Funeral services followed in the chapel with the Rev. Danny Light officiating.

Her burial was at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 9, 2018, at Woodhaven Memorial Garden.

ORLIN J. ‘PAPAW’ BERNARD

Orlin J. “Papaw” Bernard, 91, Clinton, went home to be with his heavenly father Sunday, Aug. 5, 2018, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

Orlin attended Hillvale Baptist Church and was a member of New Salem Baptist Church. Orlin was a veteran of the United States Army and Navy and served our country in World War II and Korean War.

He was preceded in death by: Loving wife, Jackie Bernard; son, Billy Bernard; four brothers; and one sister.

He is survived by: Son, Don Bernard and wife Sandra of New Ellenton, S.C.; grandchildren, Shane Bernard and wife Jeanna of Clinton, Maureen Chavis and husband Scott of New Ellenton, S.C., Jesse Bernard of Powell; great-grandchildren, Austin Bernard, Scotty Chavis, Brooklynn Shubert, and Brooke Chavis; little buddy, Joshua Patterson; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2018, at Holley Gamble Funeral Home with funeral services following in the chapel with the Rev. Allen Giles officiating.

His burial will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2018, at Woodhaven Memorial Garden.
