JERRY MARTIN

Jerry Martin, 68, Clinton, passed away at his home Sunday, June 3, 2018.

He was a past member of Farmers Grove Baptist Church.

Preceded in death by: Mother ,Maxine Pauline Martin, for whom he loved so much; father, Hayes Martin; and sister, Opal Grooms.

Jerry enjoyed riding his motorcycle at a younger age and loved long summer days when living on Hendrickson Drive and E. Maire Avenue the majority of his life.

There will be a short graveside service 10 a.m. Monday, July 9, 2-18, at Sunset Cemetery in Clinton.

NATHAN K. STONECIPHER

Nathan K. Stonecipher, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed peacefully on the morning of Friday, June 1, 2018, at his son’s home in Irwin, Penn.

He is survived by: His wonderful wife of 62 years, Ellis Stonecipher. He was a loving father to his daughter, Martha Stonecipher Gold and son-in-law Andrew Gold; son, Robert Russell Stonecipher and daughter-in-law Sherri DeMaria Stonecipher; four grandchildren, Lauren Ludovicy, Lindsay Penn, Nathan Stonecipher, Rachel Stonecipher; and one great-granddaughter, Judee Corvina.

He is also survived by: Sister, Nancy Hightower; half-brother, Steve Wilson; and countless other dear relatives and caring friends.

Nathan was born in Oliver Springs on Aug. 20, 1935. He was a popular athlete at Oliver Springs High School and was very active in the Oliver Springs Historical Society. In addition to his home in Tennessee, Nathan also lived for many years in Monroeville, Penn., and Las Vegas, Nev. Nathan will be laid to rest in the Oliver Springs Cemetery alongside his mother and father.

The family will have a graveside service at 9 a.m. Thursday, July 5, 2018, at Oliver Springs Cemetery.

A gathering of family and friends will be held immediately following the graveside service at the Oliver Springs Historical Society Museum.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the historical society.

JULIAN DENNICK WICK

Julian Dennick Wick, 88, Clinton, passed away Friday, June 1, 2018, at The Lantern at Morning Pointe in Clinton.

He was born Sept. 24, 1929, to the late George and Margaret Clingan Wick in Youngstown, Ohio.

Julian was a veteran of the United States Navy and was stationed in Key West for part of his enlistment. He was involved in a variety of careers during his lifetime. Among these were Knoxville College Dean of Admissions, Minister at Bellflower Presbyterian Church of Bellflower, Calif., Certified Hypnotherapist, Mediator with Knoxville General Sessions Civil Mediations, along with time with the New York Metropolitan Opera.

In addition to his parents, he wa preceded in death by: Life Partner: Lloyd Trent Davis; sisters: Adeline (Addie) and Gilbert James, Mary Anne Wick; brothers: James and Carol Wick, and Thomas and Anne Wick

He leaves behind: Brother, John and Rose Wick (Atlanta Ga.); along with several nieces, nephews and a host of other family and friends.

The family will receive friends from 2 – 3 p.m. Sunday, June 10, 2018, at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home, with the memorial service to follow at 3 p.m. His burial will be at Belmont Park Cemetery in Youngstown, Ohio.

MARIE EDWARDS

Marie Edwards, 82, Oliver Springs, passed away, Thursday, May 31, 2018, at her home.

Mrs. Edwards was born Nov. 20, 1935, in Carter County. She lived most of her life in this area and was a member of Beech Park Baptist Church.

She loved doing crafts and quilting with her church family and also dedicated a lot of time to her family.

She was preceded in death by: Parents, Jack Griffith and Viola Griffith; husband, James W. Edwards; brothers, Robert and Phyllis Griffith, Bill Griffith, and Ralph Griffith; brothers-in-law. Alford and Mary Edwards, George Edwards, and Roger Daniels.

Marie is survived by: Brother, Richard Griffith of Atlanta, Ga.; by sisters, Judy Daniels of Rockwood, Ann Davis and Don of Clinton, and Jane Griffith of Claxton; sisters-in-law, Brenda Keene of Knoxville, and Shelby Brown of South Carolina; she is also survived by special neighbors, Cecil Holland and Tammy and Eugene Kelley; along with a host of extended family members.

The family received friends from 1 – 2 p.m. Monday, June 4, 2018, at Premier Sharp Funeral Home. The funeral followed at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Robbie Leach officiating. Burial and graveside services followed at Anderson Memorial Gardens.

MARY JO RICHARDSON

Mary Jo Richardson, 87, Southbury, Conn., died May 31, 2018, at her home surrounded by her loving cats.

Jodie, as she was known by her family and friends, was born Nov. 7, 1930, in Clinton, near Knoxville.

Her parents were Josephine Scruggs Richardson (a musician and organist) and J. Bailey Richardson (a musician and insurance salesman).

Jodie graduated from Clinton High School and Maryville College, where she earned a bachelor degree in music. After moving to Manhattan, Jodie embarked on a 40-year career at Reader’s Digest magazine. She began in the public relations department and for many years was a magazine research editor. In 1992 she and her English friend, Marion Davis, moved to Heritage Village. Jodie was a director of her condo board, part of the Heritage Village Ambulance Association, a co-founding member of PAWS (an animal rights group) and sat on the Commission for Senior Services. As an active member of South Britain Congregational Church, she was at various times a Deacon, chairman of the Outreach Committee and on the Music Committee. The church appreciated her recent major contribution for an enhancement to the organ.

She is survived by: Grace Scruggs Allen, her special cousin and her family from Nashville.

Jodie was a generous and kind friend. In her memory, please call a neighbor or friend today.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 15, 2018, at South Britain Congregational Church, Rte. 172 in South Britain, Conn.

A reception will follow in the parish hall.

PHILIP WILLIAM VANDERGRIFF

Philip William Vandergriff, 58, Lake City, passed away Thursday, May 31, 2018.

Philip was born on June 2, 1959, in Knoxville to the late Loyal Vandergriff and Eloise Riggs. Philip was a coal miner. He enjoyed four-wheeling, working on cars, doing handyman work, welding, and shooting. Philip enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

In addition to his parents, Philip was preceded in death by his parents-in-law, Joe and Alma Hembree.

Survivors: Wife, Sandra Hembree Vandergriff of Lake City; son, James Vandergriff of Jacksboro; daughters, Brooke Vandergriff special friend Josh Norris, Tara Weaver and Dan Gray of Powell; grandchildren, Deacon Weaver, Joshie Gray; and many more family members and friends.

Visitation will be from 5 - 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 5, 2018, at Hatmaker Funeral Home in Lake City.

Funeral service will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 5, 2018, at Hatmaker Funeral Home in Lake City with the Rev. Wayne Phillips officiating.

Interment is at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 6, 2018, at Sunset Cemetery in Clinton, with military honors presented by the Campbell County Honor Guard.

KASPER ELLIOTT

Kasper Elliott, 61, Clinton passed away Tuesday, May 29, 2018, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.

Kasper was over maintenance at North Clinton Elementary School. Throughout his life he loved fishing, hunting, and working in the garden.

He was preceded in death by: Parents, Charles and Margaret Elliott; brothers, Louis, R.C., Albert and Eddie Elliott; sister, Magdalene Nolan; stepdaughter, Paige Disney.

He is survived by: Wife, Margaret Elliott; sons, Curtis Ridenour, Matthew Elliott; stepson, Eric Ridenour; stepdaughters, Stephanie, Jennifer Gideon, and Misty Blevins; sisters, Carolyn Lloyd (Lewis), Penny Koeder (Mike), Helen Neal (Allen), Cathy Carpenter (Roy); special friends, David Farmer, Rick Burchfield, Johnny McMillian, and Lori Collins; several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 4 – 6 p.m. Saturday, June 2, 2018, at Holley Gamble Funeral Home with funeral services to follow in the chapel. His burial will be 2 p.m. Sunday, June 3, 2018, at Red Hill Cemetery.

CAMILLA JO UPTON

Camilla Jo Upton, 73, Clinton, passed away Tuesday, May 29, 2018, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.

She was a loving mother. Camilla liked to sew and loved animals. She enjoyed helping people and was an LPN for 40-plus years. Camilla was a member of New Life Missionary Baptist Church in Clinton.

Camilla was preceded in death by her parents, Edward Pless and Edith June Thomas.

Camilla is survived by: Sons, Henry Edward Bell and wife Michelle of Clinton, and Michael Sean McLean of North Carolina; daughter, Jo Coop of Clinton; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives of friends.

Camilla’s family and friends held a church service for her at 10 a.m. Sunday, June 3, 2018, at New Life Missionary Baptist Church in Clinton.
