THOMAS (TOMMY LEE) BAGWELL

Born in Harriman on Jan. 16, 1958, Thomas (Tommy Lee) Bagwell (59) went peacefully to be with the Lord Sunday, April 23, 2017.

He was preceded in death by: Long time canine companion, “Wyzer.”

He is survived by: Two loving parents, Thomas and Nadine Bagwell of Claxton; siblings, Tim Bagwell and wife Cindy, Kathy (Bagwell) Bolton and husband Kerry; nieces and nephews, Tiffany Patterson, Greg Bagwell, Terica Leach, Alex Trowbridge, Samantha Bagwell and Melanie Bagwell.

Tommy Lee was a lover of animals and music. He graduated from Clinton High School in 1976 with a four year scholarship to the University of Tennessee in music, where he enjoyed playing his trumpet with “The Pride of the Southland Marching Band.” In the late 1980’s he made Winston-Salem, N.C., his home until an injury brought him home to Tennessee where he spent his last two years with family. His kind heart and gentle spirit will always be missed by all who knew and loved him.

In memory of Tommy Lee, there will be a private family service.

The family asks that those who wish to honor him can make a donation to the “Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation” for spinal cord injuries.

Kathleen Henderson Cardwell passed away Wednesday, April 27, 2017, at Parkwest Medical Center.

She was born in Anderson County on April 10, 1939.

Kathleen was one of the most loving, kindest women you could ever meet. She always told us she wanted to leave this world a kinder place by her deeds, and she succeeded. Family meant everything to her.

Kathleen was preceded in death by: Husband, Doyle T. Cardwell; father and mother, Condie and Naomi Henderson; brothers, Charles Henderson, William Henderson, Alvis Henderson, and Ronald Henderson; sisters, Anna Lee Elkins, and Alta Lee Henderson; several aunts and uncles.

She leaves behind: Loving children, Kim Richards and husband Jeff, Shannon Cardwell and wife Colleen, Alieshia Monday and husband Todd; loving grandchildren, Jeffrey Richards and wife Grace, Joshua Richards and wife Amber, Tausha Monday, Nick Monday, Katie Gresham and husband Jacob, and Grace Cardwell; great-grandchildren, Jacob, Jailee and Jackson Richards, Allison, Logan, Brent, and Baylee Richards, and Emery Gresham.

The family would like to give a very special thank you to the staff of Parkwest for all their above and beyond care for our mother.

The family received family and friends from 5 – 7 p.m. Saturday, April 29, 2017, at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton, with the funeral service to following at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Leonard Gresham officiating.

Interment was at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 30, 2017, at Woodhaven Memorial Gardens.

MARY LENE BELL WILKERSON CHAPMAN

Mary Lene Bell Wilkerson Chapman, 80, Clinton, went home peacefully surrounded by loved ones Saturday April 29, 2017.

Mary was a member of Lone Mountain Church in Andersonville. She loved having yard sales as well as going to them, camping, and spending time with her family and friends.

Mary was preceded in death by: Parents, John Henry and Bonnie Bell; son, Larry Wilkerson Sr.; son-in-law, Pat Patterson; sisters, Patricia Childress and Betty Bailey; brother, Leo Bell; father of her children, Dewey Wilkerson; and an infant child.

Mary is survived by: Loving husband of 17 years, Estel Dempsey Chapman; daughters, Glenda and Steve Hutchison of Andersonville, Carol Patterson of Oliver Springs, and Sandy and Jeff Lewis of Clinton; grandkids, Dianne Schincke, Brad Lawson, Larry Wilkerson Jr., Michelle Ray, Gregory Hutchison, Randall Lindsey, and Jessica Lively; great-grandkids, Kenzie Schincke, Destiney Wilkerson, Isaiah Ray, Markus Lawson, Wesley Lawson, Brooklyn Wilkerson, Trinity Johns, Aubrey Ray, and Dalton Lawson; sisters, Geraldine and Curtis Wilkerson, Loretta Crowe, and Louise Grisham; brothers, John Ray “Potsie” and Pauline Bell, and James “Ed” Bell; as well as several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Mary’s family will receive her friends from 6 – 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 3, 2017, at Jones Mortuary in Clinton. Mary’s funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 4, 2017, at Lone Mountain Church in Andersonville with the Rev. James Hammock officiating. Interment will immediately follow the funeral service at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Andersonville.

ALDEANE GILL

Aldeane Gill, 85, Clinton, passed away at her home April 28, 2017.

She was a member of Blowing Springs Baptist church and was an avid fan of the Lady Vol’s Basketball Team. She graduated from Clinton High School in 1949 and enjoyed working word search puzzles during her spare time. Aldeane retired from South Central Bell, where she had worked for more than 35 years.

Preceded in death by: Husband, John Hill; parents, James C. and Cloris Rhea; brothers, James C. Rhea Jr. and Amos Rhea; sister, Faye Hammons; brother-in-law, Ray Russell.

She is survived by: Husband, Sonny Gill; daughter, Deborah Hill Sandoz; grandson, Jonathan Sandoz; sister, Jean Russell; great-grandchildren, Kayla and Madeline Sandoz; stepson, Donald and wife Pat Gill; step-daughter, Sonya and husband Fred Graham; several nieces and nephews.

We would like to thank Carlis Hospice Healthcare and the wonderful care of Tonya and Cristina during her sickness. Also, want to thank Carolyn Wilkerson, caretaker, for all of the excellent care during Aldeane’s sickness.

The family received friends from 6 – 7 p.m. Sunday, April 30, 2017, in the chapel of Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton.

Her funeral service followed at 7 p.m. with David White officiating.

The family met at 12:45 p.m. Monday, May 1, 2017, at Roane Memorial Gardens for a graveside service at 1 p.m. in the Rockwood Garden.

JUDY MAE PHILLIPS HAWKINS

Judy Mae Phillips Hawkins, Lake City, passed away Thursday, April 27, 2017.

Judy was born in Campbell County, March 15, 1947, to the late Starling Kennedy and Earie Dyre Kennedy. Judy attended Anchor of Hope. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, and taking care of her family.

In addition to her parents, Judy was preceded in death by: Daughter, Stacey Nicole Phillips; sons, Steve Allen Phillips and Danny Phillips; and brothers, Mart, Dowel, Jimmey, Hobert, and Silas Kennedy.

Survivors include: Husband, Charlie Hawkins and special granddaughter, Breanna Nicole Phillips of Lake City; sons, Ebert Phillips of Caryville, Richard Hawkins of Lake City; daughters, Pamela Sue Phillips of Lake City, Melissa Phillips of Caryville, Susie Hawkins of Loudon, Lisa Miller Hawkins of Pennsylvania; brothers, Ralph Kennedy and Pamela of Caryville, Herbert Kennedy and Verdie of Coalfield, Tommy Kennedy of Jacksboro; sisters, Geraldine Ward and Ralph of Jacksboro, Christine Huckaby of Caryville, Irene Carroll of Caryville, Jones and Ronnie of Caryville, Ivadean Marlow of Caryville; a host of other relatives and friends.

LORENE ‘GRANNY’ LEINART

Lorene “Granny” Leinart, 98, Clinton, went to her heavenly home Wednesday, April 26, 2017.

Granny Leinart, as she was known to everyone, was one of a kind. She loved caring for everyone who lived in the valley. A longtime member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Dutch Valley, she loved her Heavenly Father and longed to be in heaven for many of the last years of her life. She did not want anyone to cry when she left this Earth but rejoice. Our loss here on Earth is certainly Heaven’s gain.

She was preceded in death by: Parents, John and Nora Bullock; husband, Ruffie Leinart; special grandson, Matthew Leinart; brothers and sisters-in-law, Joe and Stella Bullock, George and Frankie Bullock, John and Pat Bullock, and Helen Bullock; sister, Maggie Stout and infant sisters, Angus Jean Bullock, Doris, Irene Bullock, and Lillian Bullock.

Granny is survived by: Sons, Ronnie Leinart and wife Yoshiko, Charlie Leinart and wife Eva Pearl, and William Leinart and wife Amanda all of Clinton; brother, Willard Bullock; grandchildren, Cathy, Randy, Janet, Jason, Toby, Nathan, Anthony, and Jessica; great-grandchildren, Alan, Rayne, Samantha, Landon, Mason, Sydney, Cameron, Jackson, and Kandon; and great-great-grandchild, Emma Grace.

The family would like to thank The Waters of Clinton - North Wing and Judy as well as UT Hospice for all the wonderful care and attention they provided Granny while she was in their care. To all her friends, neighbors, nieces and nephews, she will be waiting for you in Heaven.

MILDRED ‘MILLIE’ MILLER

Mildred “Millie” Miller died Monday, April 24, 2017, at Tennova Residential In-Patient Hospice.

Mrs. Miller was born on June 15, 1925, and was the only child of the late Clara Belle Foust and Alonzo Foust. After her mother passed away when she was five years old, Mrs. Miller was raised by her stepmother, Mandy Mae Belle Foust, who continued to live with Mrs. Miller until her own death in 1999. Mrs. Miller was a dedicated wife to the late W.M. Miller Jr. for 63 years. She worked with her husband in the family business, Miller’s IGA, for decades. Mrs. Miller was a Sunday school teacher at First Baptist Church in Clinton and then later at St. Mark United Methodist Church in Clinton, where she was also an active member of the St. Mark Trinity Women’s Circle. Mrs. Miller loved to entertain in her home and prided herself on being an excellent cook of southern food. She enjoyed playing backgammon and bridge over the years with her friends and she was an avid quilter. Mrs. Miller regaled her grandchildren with stories of how she won the dance contest trophies on her bookshelves and other stories from her youth. Mrs. Miller made the best bunny rabbit cake for Easter every year and loved to organize Easter egg hunts and special visits from Santa at her house especially for her grandchildren.

Mrs. Miller was preceded in death by: Parents; stepmother; husband; and daughter-in-law, Sharon Penney Miller.

She is survived by: Three children, R. Steve Miller, John M. Miller (Judy), and Kathy Miller Guinn (Roger).

Mrs. Miller is also survived by her grandchildren, Penney Miller, Brandy Miller Vachtsevanos (Chris), William M. Miller, Charley Turpin, Amy Guinn Phillips (Josh), Derek Guinn (April), Becky Guinn Pless (Travis); and 11 great-grandchildren. She also leaves many nieces, nephews, grand and great-grand nieces, and grand and great-grand nephews.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Meadow View Senior Living Facility for their care of Mrs. Miller while she was a resident there. Additionally, the family would like to thank the Ladies and men of St. Mark United Methodist Church for their support, friendship, and generosity of time over the last several years.

ETHEL BERNICE PATTERSON

Ethel Bernice Patterson, 73, Lake City, passed away Friday, April 13, 2017.

She was born Oct. 10, 1943, in Union County to the late Lester Dale and Grace Lucille Smith Hunley. She was a member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, Bernice was preceded in death by: First husband of 49 years and father of her children, Doug Hamock; brother, Edgar Hunley; sister, Maxine Kesterson; son, Keith Hamock; granddaughter, Nevaeh Hope Bolding; and grandson, Christopher Jones.

Survivors include: Husband, C. E. Patterson; brother, Eugene Hunley and Joyce; son, Jimmy Douglas Hamock and Wylene; daughters, Debby M. Hamock Rutherford and Terry, Kimberley D. Hamock Jones and Ralph, Shelly V. Hamock Lewis and David, Shenna N. Hamock; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several other family members and friends.

Bernice was loved by many and will be missed by all.

Visitation was from 5 – 7 p.m. Sunday, April 16, 2017, at Hatmaker Funeral Home in Lake City.
