CHARLES DAVID HARMON

Charles David Harmon, 87, passed away at his home in Rocky Top in the early morning hours of Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2022.

Charles was a member of Island Ford Baptist Church, and he was a man of faith. He is an Army veteran who truly enjoyed serving his country. Charles loved to read, and he loved his family dearly.

He was preceded in death by: Parents, Dave and Ethel Harmon; son, Charles David Harmon Jr.; brothers, Carl Harmon and Archie Harmon; sister, Helen Nelson.

Charles leaves behind: Loving wife of 47 years, Izella Harmon of Rocky Top; daughter, Angela Martin and husband Jason of Rocky Top; brothers, Ronnie Harmon (Pat) of Powell, Omer Harmon (Marilyn) of Clinton; sisters, Linda Harmon of Rocky Top, and Joan Martin of Rocky Top; grandchildren, Emily Martin, Andrew Foust (Alex), Jonathan Harmon; great-grandchildren, Noah Foust and Ella Harmon.

The family will meet at Island Ford Baptist Church Cemetery for Charles’ graveside service at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 17, 2022.

The Rev. Jimmy Ault will be officiating.

Full military honors will be performed at the beginning of his graveside service.

MARY RUTH GOODMAN

Mary Ruth Goodman, 75, Lake City, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2022, at her residence.

Mary was born May 17, 1947, in Knox County to Albert Henderson Nelson and Minnie D. Lindsay Nelson.

She was a member of Island Ford Baptist Church. She enjoyed making Mexican cornbread, loved reading Stephen King novels, and loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and neighbor children. Mary loved birds and listening to the rain.

In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by: Husband, William Goodman; son, William Leslie Goodman; sisters, Margaret Hatmaker, Beatrice Harmon, and Eleanor Hawkins; and brothers, Marshall, J.D., and Jerry Nelson.

Survived by: Daughters, Amanda L Wilson and Bobby, Jennifer M. Smith and Christopher; Goddaughter, Debra S. Bridges and J.R. Bridges; sister-in-law, Joann Nelson; grandchildren, Rick Woods, Paula Shepherd (Brooks), Jasmine Goodman – Cooper, Christian Smith; great-grandchildren, Declan McFaddin, Jerrika Goodman – Cooper, Taelen Bowling, Alyssa Johnson, and Bryson Brooks; and a host of other family members and friends.

Visitation was from 4-6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, 2022, at Hatmaker Funeral Home.

The funeral was at 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, 2022, in the Hatmaker Funeral Home chapel, with Chaplin Tom Rayford officiating.

BARBARA ANN VOELLINGER PETERS

Barbara Ann Voellinger Peters, 75, passed away peacefully Nov. 12, 2022, surrounded by loved ones after battling a brief illness.

She graduated from Harvey High School in 1965, and went on to drive for Ashtabula County Schools as a bus driver for many years. Barbara loved to spend her free time singing karaoke and bowling with her local league.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert (Delores) Voellinger.

Barbara is survived by: Husband, Joel Peters; son, Michael (Mary) Gorman; grandsons, Michael (Emilee) Gorman, David (Kourtney) Gorman; granddaughters, Hannah Gorman, Rachael Gorman, Miracle Anderson-Gorman; great-grandchild, Caroline Gorman; sisters, Jenni Malcomb and Molly Baker.

The family will have a private celebration of life at a later date.

KAREN KNIGHT

Karen Knight, 58, Oak Ridge, passed away Saturday, Nov. 12, 2022, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.

She was a loving mother, sister, and friend. She had a big heart and a great sense of humor.

Karen was very caring and enjoyed helping others, especially her children. She devoted her life making sure her children were happy and had everything that they needed.

She was preceded in death by: Parents, Starling and Mary Burgess; sisters, Brenda Burgess and Sharon McCullough; brother, Danny Burgess; nephew, Shawn Branson; and niece, Becky Roberts.

She is survived by: Former spouse, Eddie Knight; daughter, Shannon Knowles and her husband Michael Knowles; son, Dustin Knight and his fiancé Kelsey Williams; sister, Linda Bunch; brother, Donnie Burgess and his wife Peggy Burgess; nephews, Colton Bunch, John Boy Armes, and Jamie Carroll; and niece, Mary Grace Sheldon.

Visitation was held from 1- 3 p.m. Sunday Nov. 20, 2022, at the Hatmaker Funeral Home chapel.

Interment immediately followed the funeral at Beech Grove Cemetery in Lake City.

GREGORY LYNN SWEAT

Gregory Lynn Sweat, 57, passed away Nov. 10, 2022.

Gregory was preceded in death by his father, James Edward “Eddie” Sweat.

He is survived by: Mother, Terry Downs; and brothers, Scott Edward Sweat and Tony Ray Sweat.

Gregory was a graduate of Clinton High School and was self-employed in the construction and landscaping business.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, Nov. 26, 2022, at Oak Ridge Family Bible Church with receiving of friends from 2-3 p.m. and service to follow at 3 p.m.

God welcomed home a good angel.

GENEVA MARIE UNDERWOOD 'PEACH'

Geneva Marie Underwood “Peach,” 93, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2022, at Sacred Grounds Hospice House in Knoxville.

She loved her grandchildren and family.

Peach was preceded in death by her husband, Charles D. Underwood.

She is survived by: Sons, Gregory (Kathy) Underwood and David (Sharon) Underwood; grandchildren, Michael (Misty) Underwood, Stacy (Ryan) George and Derek Underwood; great-grandchildren, Braxton, Drexel, Asher and Aria.

The family will gather for a visitation at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2022, at Jones Mortuary in Clinton.

Peach’s graveside service will be held at noon Friday, Nov. 18, 2022, at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 2580 Romig Road, Akron, Ohio.

Jones Mortuary in Clinton is in charge of arrangements.

WILLIAM CHARLES WARD SR.

William Charles Ward Sr., 100, went to be with his Lord and Savior Nov. 8, 2022.

He was 13 days shy of his 101st birthday.

William was born Nov. 21, 1921, in Andalusia, Ala., to his mother and father, Foman Ward and Martha Bass Ward.

William fought in World War II, The Battle of The Coral Sea, and Battle of Midway, and was a Pearl Harbor veteran.

William was ordained as a Baptist minister at Blowing Springs Baptist Church in Clinton, on Jan. 29, 1961. He pastored and preached at numerous churches and was a loyal member of the evangelist team. William never failed to show others his love for the Lord and to share the word of God with them.

In addition to his parents, William was also preceded in death by: The love of his life and wife, Lela Jane Murray Ward; daughter, Betty Jane Ward Adkins; brothers, Harvey Clinton Ward, Deleon Edward Ward, and Jesse Ward; sister, Anna Faye Ward Freddericks.

William is survived by: Son-in-law, Johnny Adkins of Sevierville; son, William Charles Ward Jr. (Billy) and wife Brenda of Athens, Ala.; daughter, Mary Ann Ward Stuart and husband Allen of Essex, Iowa; daughter, Shirley Marie Ward Coffman and husband Jeff of Maynardville; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Also, he leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews and friends; and special friends, Shane and Whitney Matchett of Andersonville, Louise Wright of Maryland, and Jean Russell of Clinton.

The family received friends from 10 a.m.-noon with a celebration of life following at noon in William’s memory Saturday, Nov. 12, 2022, at Covenant Life Church in Clinton.

Pastor Randy Hawk of Clinton officiated; Pastor Mike McVay of Laurel Hill, Fla., and Pastor Johnny Rhea of Clinton officiated the graveside service.

Interment services were conducted Nov. 12, 2022, following the celebration of life at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.

Pallbearers: Greg Coffman, Joshua Coffman, Jeffrey Stuart, David Ward, William C. Ward III (Lil Bill), Shane Matchette, Morgan Johnson, and Bobby Elliott. Honorary Pallbearers: Darlene Hawk, Sarah Bird, Diane Whittaker, Amber Hicks, Kim Minski, Donna Roach, and Dana Durphee.

DAXTON-RIVER ZAYDE HUTSON

Daxton-River Zayde Hutson, four months, Oak Ridge, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2022.

Daxton was the son of Roy Branum IV and his mother, Justice- Anne Branum.

Daxton was always smiling and had beautiful blonde hair with blue eyes just like an angel.

Along with his mother and father, Daxton is survived by: Grandparents, James Foust, Yolanda Foust, and Chinchia Hutson; brother, Lakelyn-Lakota Branum; and sister, Eraeella- Louise Branum; and several aunts and uncles.

The family received friends from 2-4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11, 2022, in the chapel of Jones Mortuary in Clinton.
