CAROLYN ANN PRITCHETT

Carolyn Ann Pritchett, 84, Finley, Tenn., passed away Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2020, at West Tennessee Healthcare Dyersburg Hospital.

Carolyn was born Sept. 13, 1936, in Bonicord, Tenn., to the late James and Pauline Putman Mount. For 24 years, Carolyn owned and operated Granny's Kids Daycare. As a childcare provider, Carolyn was involved in stimulating, encouraging growth and guiding young children. Over the years of each generation of children she kept, Carolyn never forgot one of her kid's names. Carolyn's kids loved her and she also loved them too. She was a member of Parr Avenue Church of Christ.

Graveside services were held at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30, 2020, at Fairview Cemetery with Mr. Scott Owen officiating. Dyersburg Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include: Husband, Neely Pritchett of Finley; son, Joey Pritchett and wife Candi, of Dyersburg; two daughters, Patsye Thurmon and husband Larry, of Clinton, and Cyndi Whedon and husband Greg, of Ashland City; sister, Pollyanna McClure and husband Mickey, of Dyersburg; seven grandchildren, Lesli Todd and husband T.J., Jenni Hassell and husband Timothy, Brandon Thurmon and wife Saneta, Michael Thurmon and wife Kelley, Nate Dodd, Kyle Dodd and Theresa Whedon; 14 great-grandchildren; and a special niece, Maryanna Hudson.

Pallbearers were Timothy Hassell, T.J. Todd, Brad Studard, Mickey McClure, Spence Lowery and Carl Shultz.

Memorials may be directed to St. Jude Children's Hospital or to a charity of the donor's choice.

TYLER LANE CONNOLLY

SSgt Tyler Lane Connolly, 22, passed away Monday, Oct. 18, 2020, in Charleston, S.C.

He was the son of Anita Smith of Powell, and was a member of Reality Church in Goose Creek, S.C. Tyler proudly served our country in the United States Air Force. He was adventurous, and loved cars and nature.

Tyler was preceded in death by: Maternal grandfather, Pete Dax; maternal grandmother, Dorothy Dax; uncle, Kevin Stevens; and father-in-law, Scott May.

He is survived by: Wife, Hannah Connolly; son, Rylan Jackson; mother and father, Anita and Justin Smith; brothers, Miles Dax and Darrien Connolly; sisters, Courtnie Connolly and Alexus Tolliver; stepbrother, Kaden Hodgins; nephew, Lukas Brady; niece, Talia Dax; mamaw, Kay May; and many friends in his military family.

Visitation was from 4 – 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2020, at Woodhaven Funeral Home. A funeral service with military honors will followed at 6 p.m.

GEORGE NORMAN JOHNON JR.

George Norman Johnson Jr., 61, Clinton, passed away Oct. 16, 2020, at the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville.

George was born in Oak Ridge to the late George Norman Young Johnson Sr. and Phyllis Ann Duncan Johnson, Feb. 22, 1959. George was a proud grandfather of Anna Rose May Johnson and Gemma Riley DesLonde. They were his world. He was an engineer who worked on projects across the country, most prominently the New Jersey Light Rail. He was an avid Yankees fan, golfer, and overall sports lover. He was an accomplished athlete who was all state baseball in high school and was scouted by the Chicago Cubs.

In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by: Brother, Timothy Johnson; grandparents, Ed and Myrtle Duncan of Lake City, and Carl and Beulah Johnson of Beech Grove.

Survivors:Daughter, Heather DesLonde; daughters-in-law, Sarah Johnson and Ashley Ronco; sons, George Johnson III and Austin Johnson; son-in-law, Matthew DesLonde; brothers, Darrell Johnson and Steve Johnson; sisters-in-law, Nisey Johnson and Gale Johnson; grandchildren, Gemma DesLonde and Anna Johnson.

A private service was held by the family.

ITHA MARTIN

Itha Martin, Coral Springs, Fla. (formerly of Speedwell), passed away Oct. 15, 2020, at the age of 84.

She was born in Speedwell, Nov. 27,1935, to the late Charlie L. Dunn and Flora B. Phillips of Speedwell and Clinton, respectively.

Itha graduated from Powell Valley High School in 1952 and LMU in 1955. She majored in chemistry and minored in biology. Upon graduating from LMU, Itha began her career at the National Security Complex and the graphite reactor sites in Oak Ridge.

Itha then met and married the late Dr. Doyle Martin, DDS. Together they started a dental practice in Margate, Fla. During this time, Itha attended and completed school to be a dental hygienist.

Worthy of note is the fact that Itha never missed a single day of school beginning with elementary school, onwards into LMU, and finally through school to become a dental hygienist.

After 15 years as a dental hygienist, Itha developed her love of Wilton-Style hobby cake decorating, becoming an award-winning decorator. That personal interest in cake decorating garnered her a 30-year career with Wilton as a traveling Wilton Coordinator. Itha traveled across the country and several out-of-country locations in her last career. She worked with Wilton until she was in her 80’s.

Itha was preceded in her rest by: Half-brothers, Charlie L. Dunn Jr. and Walter Dunn, both of Speedwell; nephew, Martin (Marty) R. Haynes of Knoxville; brother-in-law, Bill Messer; and great-niece, Erin Renee Haynes.

Itha is survived by: Son, Rick Martin; older sister, Faye (Messer) Bill; nephews, Steve Haynes and Ronnie Dunn; niece, Debbie Dunn; and several cousins, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Itha was a brilliant, well-educated and inspirational woman with an unmatched desire to make the most of her life. She will be forever loved and missed by all who knew her.

The family will receive friends from 5 – 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, 2020, with funeral services to follow in the chapel.

Her graveside will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 25, 2020, at Woodhaven Memorial Garden.

EDWARD PAUL TROWBRIDGE JR. (EDDIE)

Edward Paul Trowbridge Jr. (Eddie), 61, Clinton, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2020.

He was born Oct. 17, 1959, in Lafollette, the son of Edward and Joyce Trowbridge.

He wass preceded in death by: Father, Edward Paul Trowbridge; and brother-in-law, Randy Morrow.

Eddie is survived by: Daughters, Tiffany Patterson (Nick), Terica Leach (Dustin); and son. Alex Trowbridge (Megan).

He is also survived by his six grandchildren: Mason, Ansley, Camron, Maddie, Kylee, and Mila.

Eddie has two surviving sisters: Sharon Morrow of Knoxville and Kristi Anderson (Joey) of Oak Ridge,; along with nephews, Travis Morrow (Amy) of Knoxville and Tyler Morrow of Atlanta, Ga.; and nieces, Ragan Alig (Sebastian) and Rylee Anderson of Oak Ridge.

A private memorial will be held by the immediate family.

MARY CATHERIN 'CAT' QUILLEN WILLIAMS

Mary Catherine "Cat" Quillen Williams, 90, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Oct. 13, 2020.

Originally from Gate City, Va., Mary was a long-time resident of Clinton for more than 65 years.

Mary was preceded in death by: Husband, John W. Williams, parents, Hobart and Cora Quillen; three brothers and four sisters.

She is survived by: Sons, David M. Williams of Clinton and Christopher Q. Williams of Nashville, as well as daughters in-law, Christie B. and Marylene A. Williams.

Mary was blessed with three grandchildren: Shannon, Alex and his wife Michelle, Candace; and one great-grandchild, Landon.

She also is survived by brother in-law, Woody Duncan; and a large family of nieces and nephews from all across the country.

Services will be held at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton Sunday, Oct. 25, 2020.

Visitation began at 2 p.m. with a service following at 3 p.m.

A.O. Dowda Carroll

A.O. Dowda Carroll, 89, Clinton, went home to be with her Lord Saturday, Oct. 10, 2020.

She was born May 19, 1931, in Knoxville and had been a lifelong resident of Anderson County. She was a faithful member of Cedar Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Marlow and was a former member of Farmers Grove Baptist Church in Clinton for more than 60 years. A.O. enjoyed working with her flowers and was an avid gardener. She found great joy in sharing her homemade jellies and canned items with those who were dear to her. She also loved going to the beach with her adopted family, taking walks on the beach to search for and gather sea shells, as long as her health permitted.

Preceded in death by: Loving husband of 58 years, Henry Carroll; parents, Wilton and Mary Valentine Dowda; brother, Kennis Dowda; three sisters, Oma Cox and husband Clyde, Rose Fox, and Charity Dowda.

Survivors: Adopted family, the Rev. Joe and Sue Copeland of Clinton; adopted grandchildren, Carla and the Rev. Tim Ambrose of Clinton, Regina and the Rev. Brian Thomas of Clinton, Cindy and the Rev. Todd Wright of Clinton, T.J. Copeland of LaFollette; adopted great-grandchildren, Shawn and Rachel Ambrose, Daniel Ambrose, Logan and Ella Grace Thomas, Bo, Lexi and Ty Wright, Breanna, Brooklyn and Izaya Copeland; sister-in-law, Bonnie Wills of Heiskell; several nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.

The family will receive friends from noon -1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15, 2020, at Farmers Grove Baptist Church in Clinton with funeral service following at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Robbie Owens and the Rev. Myron Ford officiating,

Graveside service will follow in Farmers Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

KENNETH W. HOPPER

Kenneth W. Hopper, 82, Clinton, passed away at Tennova North Specialty Hospital on Saturday, Oct. 10, 2020.

He was a longtime member of Second Baptist Church and retired from Y-12 in Oak Ridge. He was born March 11, 1938, in Calvert City, Ky., to the late Raymond and Audrey Hopper.

In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by two sisters and five brothers.

He is survived by: His loving wife of 63 years, Maizine Hopper of Clinton; sister, Emma Bennett of Evansville, Ind.; and a host of nieces and nephews.

The family will have a graveside service at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2020, at Anderson Memorial Garden with Pastor Mike Thompson officiating.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to Second Baptist Church, 777 Public Safety Lane, Clinton, TN 37716.
