Dragons open with win

The Clinton Dragons opened the 2017 season with a 10-0 shutout of visiting Northview Academy in five mostly damp innings.

Alex Burton got the start for the Dragons and though he surrendered a hit in the first inning, he kept the visitors off of the scoreboard.

Clinton added two runs in the bottom of the first and one in the second. Burton continued to shut down the Northview bats as the Dragons added a run to lead 4-0 in the fourth.

They exploded for six in the bottom of the fifth to come away with the opening day win.

Burton went all five innings, allowed only three hits and struck out seven en route to the win.

At the plate, Spencer Byrd was 1-2 with two runs scored, two walks, and a stolen base from the lead-off spot.

Batting second, Peter Souleyrette was 1-1 with a walk, an RBI, and two runs scored.

Blake Sherwood went 1-3 with a double and two RBI while Tyler Davis went 1-3 with a double, two RBI, a run scored, and a stolen base.
