The Oak Ridge Wildcats overcame a 9-0 halftime deficit to win a huge region game at Campbell County on Friday.

The Cougars got on the board first with a touchdown pass from Zach Rutherford to Drew Jordan in the first quarter.

The extra point attempt failed but the Cougars led 6-0.

In the second quarter Campbell County had the ball inside the Oak Ridge 10-yard line but were forced to settle for a 23-yard field goal by Riley Wallace.

The Wildcats put a drive together late in the half but missed a field goal attempt.

Oak Ridge opened the third quarter with a touchdown pass from Johnny Stewart to Caleb Martin. Carson McGhee kicked the extra point to cut the Campbell County lead to 9-7. Later in the quarter the two hooked up again to give the Wildcats a 14-9 lead.

At the end of the quarter, McGhee kicked a field goal to give the Wildcats the 17-9 lead.

The Cougars battled back and scored a touchdown on a short run by Jordan to cut the Oak Ridge to just two but the two-point conversion attempt failed.

Campbell County attempted an onside kick with 1:48 remaining in the game but Oak Ridge recovered it on its own 48-yard line. They ran out the clock to preserve the win.

Oak Ridge moves to 2-1 overall (1-0 in Region 3-5A) while the Cougars fall to 2-1 overall (0-1 in Region 3-5A play).

Oak Ridge visits Farragut next week while Campbell County visits Morristown East.

Fulton 35

Powell took its 2-0 record to Fulton for a big Region 3-5A showdown on Friday night and after a strong first quarter, faded against the Falcons.

Fulton got on the board first with a 27-yard touchdown pass from to Dorian Williamson. The two-point conversion attempt failed and the Falcons led 6-0 with 7:00 remaining in the first quarter.

The Panthers answered later in the quarter when Jonathan McQueen scored on a 34-yard run. Bailor Walker ran in the two-point conversion to give Powell an 8-6 lead with 4:00 left in the opening frame.

Fulton’s Xavier Malone led the Falcons back down the field an threw a 12-yard touchdown pass to Coryean Davis. Jashaun Fenderson kicked the extra point to Fulton a 13-7 lead with only a couple of minutes left in the first quarter. It was a lead they did not surrender.

In the second quarter, Malone found Davis again, this time from 42 yards away. The Fenderson PAT made it 20-8 Falcons at the half. Fulton added a couple of touchdowns in the second half as they held on for the win.

Powell falls to 2-1 overall, 0-1 in Region 3-5A. Fulton moved to 2-0, 1-0 in region action.

Powell visits Karns next Friday while Fulton calls on Austin East.

Clinton and Oliver Springs had a bye week and return to action Friday night as the Dragons will host Anderson County and the Bobcats will host Northview Academy.
