Lady Senators Now 11-0
The Norris Middle School Lady Senator Volleyball Team continued its perfect start to the 2017 season with district wins over Lafollette and Horace Maynard last week.
The team from NMS travelled to Lafollette on Tuesday to face the district foe. Norris dominated the first set winning 25-7.
Lady Senator Asst. Coach Amanda Mayes substituted freely in the second set and Lafollette made a run at the team from across the dam.
However, inspired play from seventh graders Nike Edmondson, Kayla Humphrey, and Kassandra Morales along with the eighth grade veterans Erin Canytrell and Kylie Alvis helped the Lady Senators win the set 25-22 and clinch the match two sets to none.
On Thursday, after 10 straight matches away from NMS, the team from Norris hosted district foe Horace Maynard.
Their first home game seemed to be an easy victory as Norris jumped out to a 5-0 lead off the tough serving of Leah Freeman.
After a Freeman ace off the face of a Lady Devil opponent, the Union County team called a time out. The time out broke the momentum and Horace Maynard clawed back to within one point at 9-10.
The Lady Senators were not about to let the Lady Devils spoil their home opener outscoring their opponent 15-4 to win the first set 25-13.
The start of the second set saw Norris firing on all cylinders and playing their best volleyball of the year blasting their way to a 25-4 victory.
Outside hitter Emily Varner was unstoppable scoring several kills off of perfect sets from Kylie Alvis. Jayce Branden continued her domination of the net with severval kills of her own.
All of those attacks were started from pinpoint passing of Sadie Alvis, Leah Freeman, Erin Cantrell. Newcomer middle hitter Allie Ammons continued her stellar net play with 2 kills.
The Lady Senators continue district play at home versus Lafollette on Thursday. The match starts with JV play at 4:30 p.m. and varsity at 5:30 p.m.
Norris travels to Pigeon Forge on Saturday, Sept. 9 against teams from Georgia, Alabama, and upper East Tennessee.
