ACHS, CHS volleyball open district play

The Anderson County Lady Mavericks’ volleyball team played their first district matches on Tuesday night and won both.

They opened win a win over visiting Union County, taking two of three sets.

They won the first two sets 25-16 and 25-17.

Lady Mavs’ senior Annalyse Leach finished the match with 16 points, four aces, and 10 digs.

Teammate senior Emily Sparks had six points, one ace, two blocks, and six kills.

In the second match of the evening, Anderson County took three sets from the Gibbs Lady Eagles — 25-13, 25-21, and 25-20.

Senior Maddy Taylor had 10 points, three aces, 12 kills, and three blocks in the win.

Freshman Hannah Freeman had six points (two aces) and 25 assists.

The Clinton Dragons opened district play on Tuesday with a pair of matches at Anderson County High School.

They dropped the first match to Gibbs in three sets.

Stats were not available at press time.

They defeated Union County in the second match in four sets by scores of 25-19, 25-19, and 25-23.

They dropped the third set by a score of 25-13.

Senior Kindrix Bean had 18 points (five aces), one kill, and one dig.

Sophomore Makenzie McNeal had 13 points (four aces), four kills, one assist, and eight digs.

Junior Annabelle Jackson had eight points, one assist, and six digs.

Junior Abbie Stinnett had six points (one ace), 22 kills, and three digs.

On Thursday, the Dragons traveled to Rutledge for a district game with Grainger.

They lost in three sets by scores of 25-23, 25-22, and 25-12.

Freshman Emma Clevinger had seven points, one kill, and four digs.

Junior Madison Lambert had six points (two aces), one kill, 19 assists, and three digs.

Clinton returns to action on Thursday for a big district showdown at Anderson County.

The JV plays at 5 p.m. and the Varsity will play at 6 p.m.

They will also travel to the Rocky Top Tournament at Wilderness of the Smokies next Friday and Saturday. Times and opponents are to be announced.
