Clinton 14

The Clinton Middle School Hawks were able to convert four turnovers into a win over visiting Christian Academy of Knoxville on Thursday evening.

The Hawks won the defensive struggle 14-6, with all of the points for both teams scored in the first half.

Clinton got on the board first when Caleb Cook forced a fumble and Connor Moody scooped it up and returned it 36 yards for the score.

The two-point conversion attempt failed but the Hawks led 6-0 with 18 seconds remaining in the first quarter.

In the second quarter, the Hawks offense settled down and went on six-play, 43-yard drive. Javon Rodd plunged into the end zone from the one yard line and Trace Thackerson completed the two-point conversion pass to Moody to make it a 14-0 Clinton lead with 5:09 remaining in the first quarter.

The Warriors answered with a seven-play, 56-yard drive. They scored on a 35-yard pass from Ethan Fulford to Aiden Asbury. The two-point conversion attempt failed and the Hawks led 14-6 at the break.

In the second half, the two teams traded possessions and field position. While Clinton was unable to score any additional points, the Hawks defense was able to match their CAK counterparts and hang on for the win.

Moody led Clinton with 44 yards on seven carries. He also had four receptions for 18 yards.

Thackerson was 10-15 for 71 yards.

Defensively, Moody had seven total tackles, including 1.5 for a loss and a fumble recovery.

Andy King, Andrew Meir, and Cole Tadora each had an interception.

Cook had six total tackles, including three for a loss and two forced fumbles.

The Hawks return to action on Thursday at 7 p.m. when they host Concord.

It will be homecoming for Clinton.



Lake City 22

Norwood 16

The Lake City Lakers picked up a hard-fought 22-16 win at Norwood on Thursday evening.

For Lake City, Eli Braden was 2-7 passing for 55 yards. He had one rush for 25 yards.

Sean Cain was 1-1 passing for 25 yards. He had 36 yards rushing on eight carries.

Lucas Moore had 28 yards on five carries. Defensively, he eight total tackles, a sack, and a forced fumble.

Sam Caylor recorded three tackles, including a sack and a tackle for a loss.

Kole Buckner had nine total tackles, including a sack and three tackles for loss.

Norwood stats were unavailable at press time.

Norwood was scheduled to play Norris on Tuesday (Sept. 19) while the Lakers will host Oneida on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
