Hawks top Senators
The Clinton Hawks got off to a good start on Thursday evening as they took their season opener by a score of 62-39 over Norris Middle School.
The Hawks opened on a 9-4 run with Hunter Rupert, Teegan Bollinger, and Lane Harrison scoring for the Hawks.
Norris got back into the game with a couple of conventional baskets and a 3-pointer to make it a 9-7 Clinton lead.
The Senators’ Anthony White tied the game at 9-9 with 2:31 remaining in the first quarter. From that point, the Hawks took over as Bollinger, Harrison, and Jackson Garner each knocked down a 3-pointer to give the Hawks a 20-12 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Clinton opened the second quarter with a 3-pointer from Rishon Bright, who scored eight points in the quarter.
White and Bryson Vowell were the only scorers for the Senators in the second frame as the Hawks led 37-20 at the half.
The Norris slowed the Clinton scoring in the third quarter but the Hawks managed to extend their lead to 48-27.
The Senators could not make up any ground in the fourth quarter as the Hawks held on for the big opening night win.
The Hawks are playing in the Foothills Tip-Off Classic at Eagleton this week. Times and opponents are to be announced.
The Senators return to action on Thursday when they host Lake City at 7 p.m.
