Lady Blaze get first win

The Clinton City School Lady Blaze picked up their first win in program history last Monday (Nov. 6) with a 26-14 victory over the Clinton Middle School junior varsity.

The Lady Blaze made the short walk next door and jumped out to a 12-4 lead in the first quarter as Allie York, Bralee Hall, and Lanee Carmichael put points on the board for CCS. Chloe Hensley and Cheyenne Fox scored for the Lady Hawks.

In the second quarter, the pace slowed for each team as the defense stepped up for both sides. York and Carmichael each scored for the Lady Blaze while Fox added two baskets for Clinton to make it a 16-8 CCS lead at halftime.

The Lady Blaze opened the third quarter much as they did the first quarter. They scored eight unanswered points as York, Hall, and Kaleigh Carpenter extended the CCS advantage. Heaven Britt-Kimbriel sank a shot near the end of the quarter for the Lady Hawks but the Lady Blaze led 24-10 at the end of three quarters.

Scoring was limited in the fourth as both teams substituted freely. Carmichael picked up the only score for the Lady Blaze in the closing frame while Kimbriel and Addison DelCarmen dropped in a basket each for CMS to make the final 26-14.

The Lady Blaze had a tough go of it Saturday afternoon as they fell to visiting Cherokee Middle School by a score of 52-8.

Cherokee opened the game on an 18-0 run and never looked back. Turnovers hampered Clinton as did their inability to rebound with the much bigger Cherokee squad. The Lady Yellow Jackets led 26-2 at halftime and 40-2 at the end of three quarters.

The Lady Blaze did add three baskets in the fourth quarter.
