Blaze record first win in program history
The Clinton City Schools Blaze opened the week with a tough loss to their next-door neighbor, the junior varsity of Clinton Middle School last Monday night.
The young Hawks won 62-23.
The Hawks put 12 points on the scoreboard in the first quarter and 16 more in the second quarter as Bryson White, Javon Rodd, Teegan Bolinger, Alex Gaetz, Anthony Anderson, Carter Nelson, and Andrew Meier scored for CMS.
Hayden Craig, Luke Sanders, Abram Temple, and Travis Jackson scored for The Blaze as they went into halftime down 28-12.
The third quarter was all Hawks as Chase Glandon dropped in six points as did Rhett Seivers to account for 12 of the team’s 19 points in the frame.
CMS closed out the game on a 15-5 run.
White led the Hawks with 13 points while Craig led The Blaze with 10 points. They were the only double-digit scorers in the game.

On Saturday, The Blaze picked up the first win in program history as they downed visiting Cherokee 34-26.
Clinton took a 10-3 lead in the first quarter thanks to the scoring of Braden Hensley and Jackson.
After The Blaze’s Brian Hall scored to open the second quarter, the Yellow Jackets closed the quarter on an 11-1 run — including a 3-pointer at the buzzer.
Cherokee took a 14-13 lead into halftime.
Clinton opened the third quarter with an 8-0 run as Jackson and Craig each knocked down a 3-pointer. Later in the quarter, each repeated from beyond the arc to push The Blaze into a 28-19 lead at the end of three quarters.
Clinton’s Carson Richardson got in on the scoring in the final quarter as The Blaze scored enough to hold on for the 34-26 win.
Craig led Clinton with 16 points while Jackson dropped in 11.
The Blaze will be back in action on Nov. 24-25 at the Thanksgiving Tournament at Coalfield. They will play three games. Game times and opponents are to be decided.
