We’re back!

And the CMS Newsroom is pleased to bring you the latest edition of CMS Hawk Talk, a weekly column run by a crew of superb student reporters and writers bent on showcasing the great goings-on at YOUR hometown middle school.

Below, you will find short pieces related to areas of learning and fun in our building from Academics to Related Arts classes to Clubs and Programs and written by CMS students.

Showcasing a wide variety of the positive happenings at CMS is Hawk Talk’s first priority.

This week, we also bring you some perspective on an issue that could affect all of us, connecting to the world at large.

Here are stories from the past week at CMS:

Christmas Music: The Return

Abigail Bible, Kayana Donegan, Angelyna Long, and Abigail Sanders

The CMS Band, directed by Mr. Matthew Bimstein, is performing its much anticipated Christmas concert. The CMS Band is a wonderful program created so that kids could express their musical talent. They are performing December seventh in the Clinton High School gymnasium.

The sixth grade band is performing some well known holiday tunes.

The seventh and eighth grade band ensemble is going to perform “Charterpoint” by Anne McGinty and “Instant Christmas Concert” arranged by Eric Osterling.

The CHS band, directed by Mr. Daniel Stone will also be performing holiday music such as “Themes from The Nutcracker” written by P.I. Tchaikovsky, and arranged by Clair W. Johnson, “Midnight Sleighride” arranged by Tom Wallace, and more holiday tunes.

The concert has free admission, but the CMS and is selling PopSockets for $10 as a way to raise money for the CMS band. We would really appreciate if the community would come out and support the band for their holiday concert.

Hawks Helping Others

receives a donation

Mrs. Pam McCrary; Edited by Jeremiah Turbyville and Zachary Rains

Island Ford Baptist Church has recently donated 70 boxes of goodies to a club at Clinton Middle School called Hawks Helping Others.

Many of the seventh grade students came to help the cause.

Some teachers that helped with the effort are John Land, Kathy Lauer, Dorian Ewing, and Lisa Clark.

These boxes will go toward students in the Clinton area. Some of the items in the box were t-shirts, toys, toiletries, crayons, and many other fun things.

Middle School and

‘Net Neutrality’

Hunter Evans, Catherine Meredith, Zachary Rains, Dylan Reed, and Jeremiah Turbyville

The FCC has recently voted to diminish “net neutrality.”

The United States Congress will be having a big conversation about whether to keep or end net neutrality, the idea that people, no matter their status or location, receive the same connection, and pay the same amount of money for their internet.

This won’t affect the schools, because the schools have its server and already blocks and throttles.

This could affect students while they are at home, because if they have homework that they have to use their computer, or they have to do research, then it can affect the internet, because you might have to pay different amounts of money for different websites.

“It won’t affect our Chromebook. We have our own system because we are all on school grounds,” said Clinton Middle School technology teacher, Jonathan Lewis.

This means that the ending of net neutrality won’t affect students while at school, but it can affect them while doing work or research at home.

Teacher Spotlight: December

Ashton Arndt, Hazel Hensley, Dannah McBride, Kira Murphy, and Kiara Reeves

Each month, Clinton Middle School’s Hawk Talk newsroom votes a teacher for the Teacher Spotlight.

Last month, Mrs. Carrie Brown was the first teacher spotlight. This month, the teacher spotlight is Mrs. Stacey Turner.

Mrs. Stacey Turner has been teaching at the Anderson County school system for 22 years as a math teacher for different schools.

Mrs. Turner “loves seeing her students learn new skills and teaching others new strategies. Seeing their faces light up when they have mastered a concept or skill, that is what makes teaching fun and exciting.”

Mrs. Turner is currently teaching in the sixth grade department as a math teacher at Clinton Middle School.

Mrs. Turner has always had a passion for math because “math is the subject she has always enjoyed even as a kid. She loves seeing her students grow as individuals as well as academically.”

From the sports desk...

Sam Bowling, Anthony Berg, Joshua Patton, and Sam Whitaker

Clinton Middle School has a promising wrestling team and they have their first chance to prove themselves on Saturday, Dec. 2.

We have talked to Kaden “Bull” Goodman, son of wrestling coach, Wally Goodman. He said, “It’s really fun, but it’s hard. My favorite part is the tournaments.”

We also talked to Preston Stockton about wrestling, it is his first year ever wrestling.

He said, “My favorite part of the sport is it is a individual sport, it makes me work harder to be the best I can be. It is tough but anyone with the right fuel and drive can do it. I wish people would look at the sport the way it is, a tough amazing sport and not worry about the uniforms because the sport of wrestling really is great.”

The Clinton Hawks boys basketball team remains undefeated, as the Hawks beat Sevierville Middle School on Tuesday Nov. 28 by a score of 45-31.

Until next week….
