Lady Dragons roll
The Clinton Lady Dragons throttled visiting Karns last Friday by a score of 57-12.
The Lady Dragons exploded for 30 points in the first quarter as Amaya Whitt scored the first six points for Clinton. Danyel Joy then dropped in a 3-pointer while Nikki Jones and Kinley Martin each scored to give the Lady Dragons a 15-0 lead.
The Lady Beavers scored to break the run at the 3:25 mark of the quarter but Clinton reeled off another 15 points as Abby Szabo, Alayjah Whitt, and Kailee Taylor joined the scoring spree.
Karns managed to put up eight points in the second quarter as Lady Dragon’s Head Coach Alicia Phillips substituted freely. Amaya Whitt continued her hot shooting early in the quarter while Cierra Bunch got into the scoring column for Clinton.
The Lady Dragons held a commanding 45-10 lead at halftime.
In the third quarter, Joy scored seven of Clinton’s nine points. The Lady Dragons held the Lady Beavers to no points in the third quarter and only two in the fourth quarter as they coasted to the lopsided win.
“I don’t remember the last time we scored 30 points in a quarter. The girls had a great night. We’ve been getting lots of steals and turnovers but we’ve not been converting. We really worked on that this week. If we didn’t convert and we had a fast break, we just ran,” said Phillips.
“Coming off of Monday night’s loss [to Anderson County] where we looked awful and didn’t have any energy, we needed this game tonight,” she said.
Amaya Whitt led Clinton with 17 points (15 in the first half) while Joy had 13 points.
The Lady Dragons return to action on Friday when they host district rival Halls.
Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
