Lady Dragons struggle in road losses

The Clinton Dragons dropped a district road to Powell on Tuesday by a score of 60-46.

The Panthers took control early as they raced to 21-14 first quarter lead. Things did not get any better for Clinton in the second quarter as Powell extended their lead to 36-20 at the half.

The Dragons’ offense continued to sputter in the third quarter as the Panthers pushed their advantage to 51-28.

Clinton managed to outscore Powell 18-9 in the fourth quarter but it was far too little to overcome the deficit of the three previous quarters.

The Panthers outscored the Dragons 38-18 in the paint. From the floor, Clinton shot just 31.8 percent compared to 51.1 percent for Powell.

Trevon Hill led the Dragons with 11 points - the only Clinton player to reach double digits in scoring.

The Dragons took a loss on Friday at Oak Ridge, dropping the district game by a score of 95-58.

The second quarter saw the Wildcats explode for 33 points and jump out to a 48-26 lead at the half.

Though scoring picked up for Clinton in the third quarter, it did not slow down for Oak Ridge as they took a 71-47 lead.

The Wildcats actually gained ground down the stretch as the Dragons struggled for points in the fourth quarter.

Levert Smith of Oak Ridge led all scorers with 20 points.

Daraon Jones led Clinton with 18 points while Luke Harrison added 17.

The Dragons travel to Anderson County on Friday and visit Karns on Tuesday for two key district games.
