City of Rocky Top offering free events

Art classes, new equipment at gym available

The City of Rocky Top is excited to announce that the Rocky Top Community Center will be holding free monthly art nights for both kids and adults.

The City has created an Appalachian Arts Program through the Creative Placemaking Grant they received from the Tennessee Arts Commission.

The first event will be “D.A.R.E to Be Different” kickoff from 6 7:30 p.m. March 13.

Kids will create a D.A.R.E themed poster to be judged by our Rocky Top Police Department. Prizes will be awarded.

There will also be free popcorn and cotton candy available to anyone who attends. All supplies will be provided.

Participant registration will begin at 5:45 p.m. Kids classes will be held every second Tuesday of the month.

The second class will be geared toward those ages 15 and up.

This will be a two-part class from 6 7:30 p.m. March 27 and April 24.

Bonnie Shelton and Lisa Pebley from Smoky Mountain Porcelain Artists will be teaching the “Dogwood Blossoms” class. This class will be limited to 15 seats.

You can sign up at the kick off on March 13 or at City Hall through March 26. Registration will be on a first-come first-served basis. A wait-list will be utilized, if necessary.

Adult classes will be held every fourth Tuesday of the month.

In addition to the arts classes, thanks to a generous donation from the Rocky Top Police Department through the D.A.R.E program, the gym will have new equipment! Open play hours will be from 4 8 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, and from 10 a.m. 4 p.m. Saturdays.

Children 10 and under must be supervised by a parent or guardian.

City of cials are very excited to be able to better serve the community and its citizens by providing quality programming and events.

Keep an eye out for a schedule of activities in the upcoming weeks.
