Bishop wins second consecutive state championship


Brittany Bishop claimed her second consecutive state pole vault championship last Thursday at the TSSAA State Track Championships in Murfreesboro. Bishop also claimed a sixth place nish in the Girls 100 Meter Hurdles at the event. — Submitted
Brittany Bishop made it two in row last Thursday in Mufreesboro as she won the TSSAA Pole Vault Championship.

The Anderson County High School junior won with a final vault of 12-00.00. Not only did she claim another state title, she also capped her second season of going undefeated in pole vault in TSSAA-sanctioned events.

The closest competitor to her in the event was Katie Woods of Brentwood Academy, who finished with a final vault of 11-00.00. Caitlyn Cutshall of Daniel Boone was third in the event with a final vault of 10-00.00.

Bishop also claimed a sixth place finish in the Girls 100 Meter Hurdles with a time of 15.28. Jordan Braswell of Memphis Central won the event with a time of 14.02.

ACHS junior Maddy Moody finished third in the Girls 1600 Meter Run with a time of 5:11.04. Sasha Neglia of Dobyns-Bennett won the event with a time of 5:00.56 and Landri Wilcox of Cookeville was second with a time of 5:09.25.

Moody also finished sixth in the Girls 3200 Meter Run. Her time was 11:25.46.

ACHS senior Parker Fulton capped a fine high school career with a 14th place finish in Boys Long Jump with a distance of 20-07.75. Courtney Thomas of Memphis Central won the event with a distance of 23-06.25.

ACHS placed 10th in a group of 63 teams at the state meet.
