Lady Hawks take runner-up, Riley Scarbrough wins first place medal
Clinton Middle School eighth Grader Riley Scarbrough took the first place individual medal at the ETMSGA District 1 Golf Tournament at Three Ridges Golf Course last Tuesday.
Her score of 50 on the 9-hole round was enough to secure the low round of the day on the girls side of the scoreboard and, together with teammate Addy Shelton’s round, was enough to win the second Place for CMS in team competition.
The Lady Hawks lost First Place in team play by one single stroke to an always dominant Jacksboro Middle School team.
Scarbrough’s long game is to thank for this huge win for CMS. She is consistently deep off the tee, and her approach game has improved greatly this year.
While the CMS boys team came up short in team play, seventh grader Mason Ferguson qualified for Region as an individual on a sudden death playoff hole, sinking a huge putt when his opponents from St. Mary’s of Oak Ridge could not.
The Lady Hawks and Mason will move on to Region Tournament play on Tuesday, May 8, also at Three Ridges, with trips to the ETMSGA State Tournament on the line.
