ACHS sending three to state track championship
In the sectional meet at Science Hill on Saturday, three members of the track team from Anderson County High School qualified for the upcoming state championship meet.
Brittany Bishop qualified for two events by winning first place in Girls Pole Vault with a vault of 12-05, the second best ever in state high school history. Bishop also claimed first place in the Girls 100 Meter Hurdles with a time of 15.32.
Maddy Moody qualified with a fourth place finish in both the Girls 1600 Meter Run (5:09.09 — a new ACHS record) and Girls 3200 Meter Run (11:23.66).
Parker Fulton qualified with a second place finish in long jump with a distance of 21.00.25. He missed on qualifying in triple jump, where he finished with a distance of 34-04.50.
Narrowly missing the state meet was Mollie Longmire who finished seventh in both the Girls 1600 Meter Run (5:29.02) and Girls 3200 Meter Run (11:54.43).
Brookelyn Housley placed in the Girls 300 Meter Hurdles with a time of 51,73 but fell short of a bid to the state meet.
For the Mavericks, several athletes had strong finishes but did not qualify for the state championship.
Grant Hayes was fifth in the Boys 300 Meter Hurdles with a time of 41.83.
Micah Sawyer was seventh in the Boys 1600 Run with a time of 4:44.28 and placed in the Boys 3200 Meter Run.
Cole Dark was seventh in the Boys Shot Put with a distance of 45-06, a personal record.
Joseph Randolph was ninth in the Boys Shot Put with a distance of 42-10, a personal record.
Kirby Logan was 11th in the Boys 3200 Meter Run with a time of 10:21.46.
Wyatt Hull placed in the Boys Discus Throw with a distance of 96-07.
As a team, the Lady Mavs were seventh of 33 schools in the meet. Hardin Valley Academy took first place.
The Mavericks finished 17th of 33 schools. Hardin Valley Academy also took first place on the boy’s side as well.
The state championship meet will take place May 24-25 in Murfreesboro.
