Lady Wildcats off to good start

The Oak Ridge High School Lady Wildcat Volleyball Team opened the 2018 Season at home against in-district rival Powell High School and marched to victory in three straight sets.

The Lady Wildcats played in the Showdown at the Sunsphere tournament Friday and Saturday in Knoxville.

The Tournament hosted over 50 teams from around Tennessee and neighboring states, bringing in the top competition in the area.  The Lady ‘Cats were seeded 28th entering the field and were seeded third in their pool of four.

On Friday, Oak Ridge played with their characteristically intense serving and had outstanding defensive performances to pull of tight victories against the two top-seeded teams in the pool.

The Wildcats beat Heritage in two close sets and finished Soddy Daisy in three to finish Friday 2-0.

Saturday morning the Lady ‘Cats swept Greenbrier to take First Place in their Pool with an undefeated record and an opportunity to play in the Championship Bracket with one more victory in the Crossover Match against Kings Academy.

Kings struggled to pass Oak Ridge’s unrelenting serve and were swept 2-0, placing the Wildcats in the Top 16 and a chance to play for the Championship.

Unfortunately, the Lady Wildcat’s run ended in the first round of the Championship bracket when Oak Ridge struggled to handle Farragut’s serves and hard-hitting attack, being beat in straight sets.
