ACHS Cross Country starts season

cross country team from Anderson County High School enjoyed success at their opening meet Saturday at Victor Ashe Park in Knoxville.

The Knoxville Youth Association Fall Classic played host to teams from 19 high schools (varsity and junior varsity), 22 middle schools, and 30 elementary schools.

For the varsity girls, Andie-Marie Jones of Maryville won with a time of 19:06.62.

Anderson County senior Maddy Moody finished second, crossing the finish line with a time of 19:21.85.

Fellow senior and Lady Mav Mollie Longmire took fifth place with a time of 20:38.03.

Freshman Macy Caldwell took 10th place with a time of 21:18.68.

Other Anderson County runners who completed the course included seniors Paige Freyre (24:16.57) and Mackenzie Hensley (29:47.25).

A total of 133 runners competed in the girls’ varsity race.

On the boys’ side, Tommy Ward of Maryville took first place with a time of 16:50.12.

Senior Kirby Logan of Anderson County finished fourth with a time of 17:28.30.

Other finishers for the Mavericks included sophomore Colin Moody (18:08.70), junior Micah Sawyer (18:29.08), senior Grant Hayes (19:16.38), sophomore Tanner Wells (20:27.83), and senior Alex Baker (23:55.57).

A total of 177 runners competed in the boys’ varsity race.

In the JV girls race, Grace Adams of Heritage won with a time of 24:05.54.

Sophomore Ally Perry of Anderson County finished 12th out of 49 runners with a time of 26:50.82.

Other runners who finished for the Lady Mavs included junior Kaitlyn Perry (27:01.64), sophomore Cameron Castleberry (27:57.84), sophomore Kaylee Payne (30:14.40), freshman Helen Burton (31:31.22), and freshman Madison Rayfield (43:25.44).

Tyler Ebbert of Farragut won the JV boys’ race with a time of 18:46.62.

Freshman Jacob Flatford of the Mavericks finished with a time of 22:43.71.

Other Anderson County runners included sophomore Ben Lockett (25:05.84), sophomore Kolby Payne (25:28.88), sophomore Ryland Ford (26:36.68), and sophomore Ryan Elliott (26:41.82).

Anderson County returns to action on Saturday when they run in the Cherokee Classic at Sequoyah Hills Park in Knoxville. The girls’ varsity will race at 9 a.m. and the boys will follow at 9:40 a.m.

JV girls will race at 10:20 a.m. and JV boys will run at 11 a.m.
