Lady Mavs knock off Union County
Anderson County Lady Mavericks’ Volleyball picked up a district over Union County at Clinton last Thursday.
The Lady Mavs won in three sets by scores of 25-12, 25-19, and 25-7.
Sophomore Bailey Wilder had 12 points, nine kills, and 10 digs.
Anderson County dropped a district match to Gibbs the same night losing in five sets. They won two sets by scores of 25-16 and 25-14. They lost three sets by scores of 25-17, 26-14, and 15-5.
Freshman Jayce Braden had 12 points, three blocks, and seven kills.
Last Monday night, the Lady Mavs traveled to Knox Central and won in three sets by scores of 25-11, 25-13, and 25-14.
Freshman Emily Varner finished with five points and three digs while Wilder had three kills.
Anderson County played in the Early Bird Tournament at Oak Ridge the previous weekend.
They beat Ooltewah in two sets by scores of 25-19 and 25-16.
Freshman Leah Freeman had six points and 10 digs.
The Lady Mavs fell to Dobyns-Bennett in two sets by scores of 25-20 and 25-17.
Sophomore Matti Rowland had five kills and three blocks.
Anderson County also dropped a match to Portland by scores of 25-19 and 25-11.
Sophomore Hannah Freeman finished with 15 assists, four points, one kill, and five digs.
The Lady Mavs finished the tournament with a win over Pigeon Forge by scores of 25-14 and 25-11.
Braden finished with seven points, two blocks, and four kills.
The Lady Mavs return to action on Thursday when they visit Gibbs for matches with the Lady Eagles and Grainger.
The JV will play at 5 p.m. while the varsity will play 6 p.m. and 7 p.m.
The JV and varsity will play in the Rocky Top Tournament on Friday and Saturday in Gatlinburg. Times and opponents are to be announced.
Anderson County will visit Morristown East on Monday (Sept. 10) and visit Clinton on Tuesday (Sept. 11).
The JV will play at 5 p.m. and the varsity will play at 6 p.m. for both matches.
