On Oct. 3, Clinton Police Department officers stopped by McDonald’s for a couple of hours to meet with members of the community. It was the first of several planned events between police and the public.

Sgt. Danielle Alexander said that McDonald’s contacted Chief Vaughn Becker to see if he would be interested in doing it, and he was happy to do so.

“Several people have come up and talked to us,” said Alexander.

She has been with Clinton PD for eight years, and in law enforcement as a whole for 15.

“The point was to just reach out to the community, people that live in Clinton, and meet them, see if they have questions,” she explained.

They hope to build relationships between the police and community members.

Officer Audrey Chapman has been with the department for nine months. It’s her first job in law enforcement. Originally from Campbell County, she is glad to be working in Clinton.

“I couldn’t ask for better people to work with,” she said. “I enjoy the work and the community a lot.”

Clinton resident Wanda Gettings was one of the residents who stopped by to say hi. She didn’t know the officers would be there, and was a little hesitant to approach at first. She quickly grew comfortable enough to ask them questions about safety and traffic, though.

“I’m glad to talk with them,” she said. “It’s good to know who’s out there working for you.”
