NAACP of Oak Ridge selects youth council
The Branch wants teenagers who want to become change agents for their communities by taking on the challenges of leadership for the future. The NAACP wants to be that vehicle for this change and the training ground for this leadership in addressing the political, educational, financial, and social inequalities within our community.
One of the major goals is relationship building. The Youth Council is expected to work closely with adults in the local Branch. Youth enrichment and informal training programs will be designed to build character and develop self-esteem and to demonstrate good excellent examples of responsibility, honesty, respect, cooperation, dignity, and sensitivity in all phases of their daily lives.
In addition, Youth Council members will have an opportunity to serve on standing committees (membership, finance, press and publicity, political action, youth employment and economic empowerment, education, program and research, juvenile justice, entertainment, community coordination, or health), in guiding a new era of civil rights for all people.
If you would like to become part of this vibrant Youth Council, please contact Youth Council Advisors (Odessa Anderson at Odessa-DaveAnderson@comcast.net or Ralph Mack at mack32kk@peoplepc.com) for additional information, membership application, or dues.
