Councilman thanks the citizens of Clinton

EDITOR:

As a former Marine Corps Captain, I enjoy running in the morning.

And in the mornings I run the streets of Clinton. In these moments of quiet solitude, I often reflect on the beauty of our town of Clinton.

I run through Market Street on to Main Street.

I run down the great river Clinch and draw inspiration from our town’s natural beauty. As I make my way up and down the streets, I think of our citizens and the friendships and relationships I have been fortunate to make.

I think about the challenges we face as a community, I think about the opportunities each day may bring, and I think of how fortunate I am to call this place home.

As the sun rises and the fog gives way to the rays of light, the City of Clinton brings forth all of its promise.

Our town has great promise and the future brings with it great opportunity.

Our City Council has worked to support great schools, an outstanding police department, an incredible fire department, the best public works, a leading public utility, and a professional city staff. It has been my honor to serve on City Council.

I look forward to continuing the work the current City Council has started. The City Council has accomplished much these past four years.

1. Reduced city blight and enforced the slum ordinance;

2. Worked to clean up the Magnet Mills Site;

3. Funded three school resource officers;

4. Continued to improve city roads and new paving;

5. Supported the Fire Department and acquired a 110-foot Ladder Fire Truck;

6. Worked with County Officials to resolve the Glen Alpine Convenience Center;

7. Over the last seven years reduced the City Debt over $4.6 million;

8. Over the last seven years the City has spent over $8.4 million on capital outlay;

9. Received the 2016 TML Award for Excellence in Fire Safety- improved ISO rating from a 4 to a 2 which saves residents on insurance.

The current City Council together with our City’s leadership shares a vision for Clinton.

This vision includes residential and commercial growth. It includes revitalization of public spaces, continued conservative fiscal values, proper expenditure of public assets, investment in our infrastructure, continued support for our award-winning schools, keeping our taxes low, and a fidelity to every citizen’s trust.

It is a vision that seeks to build consensus when possible and to lead from the front at all times.

It is a vision that will bring together important city stakeholders both in private enterprise and the public sphere. I share with the Chamber of Commerce a vision of Clinton that is propelled with proper ambition while guided by civic patience.

I believe that this vision will become Clinton’s reality.

I am confident in the current City Council and I have been honored to serve along with each member of Council and the Mayor.

I want to thank the citizens of Clinton for their support. I wish each candidate the best of luck and I hope to earn your vote in November.

Finally, please be sure to vote. Every vote counts. I can attest to that maxim.
