Blaze Kraze

The Clinton Lady Blaze basketball team saw its winning streak reach seven games recently with a road victory over the Tennessee Jays travel team.

It was a hard-fought victory for Clinton, which outlasted the Jays 34-32 Thursday at Robertsville Middle School in Oak Ridge.

Bralee Hall scored 15 points for Clinton (7-1). The Lady Blaze have won seven straight since dropping their season opener on Oct. 18.

Clinton City Schools athletic director E.T. Stamey said he’s impressed with Clinton’s start this season.

“Our girls are 7-1 and that’s really good,” Stamey said.

The Blaze boys, meanwhile, fell to the Tennessee Jays 32-18 at Robertsville Thursday.

Jaxson Wilburn scored seven points for Clinton, which dropped to 5-3 on the season.

Upcoming Schedule

The Blaze and Lady Blaze will play intersquad games at Clinton High School on Thursday.

Both teams will play Saturday when they hit the road to head to Kingston to play Cherokee Middle School. The girls play at 2 p.m. The boys game will follow. The Blaze and Lady Blaze will compete in the Coalfield Tournament, which begins on Friday. Nov. 23.

Basketball Game to be broadcast on radio: Stamey said that Clinton radio station WYSH will broadcast the Blaze games against Campbell County on Thursday, Nov. 29.

Blaze Soccer Clinic: The Blaze Soccer Clinic is underway. The clinic began recently. Both boys and girls can sign up before the next camp session.

Clinic sessions for players in Grades 1-3 are Wednesdays from 3:30-4:30 p.m. at the Clinton City Football Stadium. Camp sessions for players in Grades 4-6 are held on Fridays from 3:30-4:30 p.m. at the football stadium. In the event of inclement weather, the clinic will be held at Clinton City Gym.

The clinic is run by professional soccer player Chris Carroll.

Clinton City Schools Athletic Director E.T. Stamey said that the Blaze is hoping to field both boys and girls soccer teams in the spring of 2019.

“We started doing the clinic to gauge interest in soccer in the community,” Stamey said. “We’ve been doing [Clinton Blaze Athletics] for a couple of years and we’re hoping to have soccer in the spring.”

Time set for National Cross Country Meet: The Elementary and Middle Schools National Cross Country Championships will be held on Saturday, Dec. 1 at Knoxville’s Victor Ashe Park. Races begin at noon. Clinton Blaze runner Laci Percival will compete.

Percival is a fourth grader at Clinton Elementary School and will run a one-mile course.
