The Anderson County Lady Mavericks have started the new basketball season with a 3-0 mark through games last weekend with a road win last Thursday at Loudon before winning twice at home Saturday.

The Maverick boys are also off to a good start with a 3-1 mark. After suffering a loss Thursday at Loudon, the Mavs won three games Saturday at home during a day-long basketball play day.

The Lady Mavs opened their season with a one-sided 76-49 win at Loudon before coming home to collect a 61-52 victory over Greenback prior to a 61-54 decision over Sunbright.

Following the Mavericks’ 62-49 defeat at Loudon, the three wins were 49-35 over Sunbright, 54-40 over Maryville Christian and 60-26 over the Knoxville Ambassadors – a home-school team.

The Lady Mavs went from a 13-13 first-period tie to a 21-9 second-period scoring output at Loudon on the way to the opening night win.

Brooklin McCoy pumped in 19 points while Cameron Castleberry and Shae Berry turned in 11 apiece.

McCoy’s 15 and Berry’s 11 paced the win over Greenback.

The Lady Mavs came from behind to defeat Sunbright.

Trailing 39-36 after three periods, the Lady Mavs built a 25-15 scoring drive down the stretch to win as Berry contributed 21 points and McCoy 20.

Saturday’s boys’ win over Maryville Christian found the Mavs pull away from the Eagles beginning in the final period after the two teams played a close contest until that time.

Anerson County outscored Maryville Christian 19-8 during the final eight minutes as Harrison Ogburn topped the winners with 11 points while Brady Garren chipped in 10.

The Mavs were in command of Sunbright most of the way as Garren led the attack with 14 points.

Nine different Mavs scored. Ogburn’s 14 points against the Ambassadors paved the way to an easy AC win as the home team was up 14-2 after one period and 33-15 at the intermission.

The AC teams were scheduled to host Oakdale Tuesday before opening the district schedule next Tuesday at Central.

Cross-county rival Clinton will visit AC Friday, Nov. 27.
